I'll steal Walter Payton from you.
    and add...

    Bo Jackson
    Earl Campbell
    Derrick Thomas

hmmm...trying to come up with a WR...

I'll just say Largent because I'm racist.
But I did used to like to watch him play.

Bo Jackson's shortened career is the only thing keeping him off the list. Longevity has to count for something. But yeah, healthy Bo in his prime was as good as it gets.

    Gronk

Each completely changed the game at their respective positions, redefining those positions.

Gronk is questionable because 8 seasons with plenty of games missed seems like an incomplete career. But for perspective, if he were to play as many games as Tony Gonzalez played, Gronk’s current pace of production would clear Tony’s career yards by nearly 4,000 and he’d have about 25 more TDs. Granted, that doesn’t account for regression of production over a long career. But the point is that Gronk’s current production pace is that ridiculous.

In a “first 8 seasons” comparison, Tony put up 570 catches, 6905 yards and 64 TDs in 127 games to Gronk with 474 catches, 7179 yards and 76 TDs in 102 games. 25 fewer games, nearly 100 fewer catches. The production is video game silly. 102 games is basically 6 and a half seasons. Averaging roughly 1100 yards and 12 TDs per “season” on just 4-5 catches a game.

    Yeah...I did consider that.

But in terms of turning on a game just to watch one player, he popped in my mind immediately.

Gronk having Tom Brady neutralizes a lot of your argument.

    I'd rather have Tony

1.Don Hutson Alabama/Packers....Where do ya start with this guy? Nine times All Pro, five times the NFL's leading scorer for a season. Led the league in INT's, scored over 800 points kicking. Here we had a 9.8 sprinter***(WR 9.4) vs white DB's in the 30's early 40's, yep, a total mismatch. He was the first WR to have a 1000 yds in a season. Had 17 TD's that 1000 yard season (1942), no WR had more until Mark Clayton in 1984.

In that 1942 season he had 74 receptions, second place....24. That was similiar to every season of his amazing career. He was on a whole other level.

2.Jim Brown, Syracuse/Browns.... Only a Don Hutson could have this amazing athlete in second. Imagine a RB (actually a FB) averaging 100 games evey game of his career, that is hard to believe. He averaged over 5 yards a carry vs defenses geared to stop him. At 6-2 230 pound with 10.0ish jets he was a freak of nature in his day, there had never been this size, speed, agility combo before Jim Brown. A 230 pounder returning kicks in the late 50's...wow~~~ He dragged wanna be tacklers, then could out run any defender. Totally amazing.

3.Jerry Rice, Mississippi Valley State/Niners......Will his numerous NFL records ever be broken, I have doubts. First time I became aware of him (sorta) was checking NCAA scores. I kept reading Mississippi Valley State 76 Alcorn 24, Mississippi Valley State 65 Jackson State 27, etc etc. So it's this Blue vs Grey All Star game (non defunct) and here's this cat from MVS catching everything, yep....Jerry "World" Rice. I'd find out about QB Willie Totten and that spread formation at MVS later. Will we ever see a more dominate HBCU NFLer, that would be a....nope~~~

4.Red Grange...Illinois/Bears.....Yep, The Galloping Ghost. Imagine an 18 game coast to coast tour all because of one player, yep...1926. And the cat played both ways. He had a lot to do with the popularity of the game, made a massive impact on the sport.

5.Emlen Tunnell Iowa/Giants....The cat just walked in to the Giants office and asked for a tryout. After making the team.....79 INTS, 4TD's, over 2000 yards returning punts and 5TD;s, and over 1000 yards returning kicks, I TD. His INT yards/punt return yards were an NFL record. Played in nine pro bowls, was all pro four times. He had 10 seasons n a row with at least 6 INT's. How he went undrafted...?

    Need mention....

    "Night Train" Lane......14 INT's as a rookie
    Marion Motley
    Joe "The Jet" Perry
    Reggie White
    Lawrence Taylor
Gale Sayers..............if not for such a short career, hmmmm?
    Bo Jackson...same as above
    Barry Sanders
    Devin Hester

*** He was playing baseball on the Alabama campus, there was also a track meet going on (on both teams). So he walks over all decked out in the baseball gear, trades his baseball shoes for cleats, wins the 100 yard dash then back to the baseball game where he hits a homerun.....(just made that last part up, but what a great story)

I would have put him at #1 except for that.

He put up exceptional numbers with 3 (4?) different QB's going to Super Bowls with those 3 different QBs across two teams.

Yeah but the two QBs he won with are both HOFers. And Montana was already a two time Super Bowl champ before him.

Greatness is greatness. I feel like Gronk would have put up pretty ridiculous stats with pretty much any competent QB. Maybe not if his QB was like Tavares Jackson or Tim Tebow. But most others. And remember, Brady isn’t know for creating superstar receivers. Outside the one Randy Moss season, Brady has really been about equal distribution to many different receivers. The fact Gronk puts up those numbers without needing 8-10 catches a game speaks volumes. He’s an absolute freak.

    1. "Night Train" Lane....Scottsbluff/Lions....14 INT's as a rookie
2.Joe "The Jet" Perry....Compton/Niners....first black to have a 1000 yard season, first player with consecutive 1000 yard seasons
3.O.J.Simpson....SFCC/Bills...first 2000 yard season (top JC RB in the nation)
4.Hugh "The King" McElhenny...Compton/Niners....greatest white RB
5.Carlton "Cookie' Gilchrist....no college/Bills (fist 1000 yard rusher in AFL history, a 250 pound monster in the 60's))

What a ty list, picking players who played in an all white league who didn't even wear real helmets as the top 5 best of all time. Those players probably wouldn't even be good enough to make a practice squad with the superior athleticism of modern NFL players.

Right there tells all of us just how little ya understand sports. Not a clue.

    It's all about.....DOMINANCE OF ERA.....ok rookie?

This is why Jesse Owens, Babe Ruth, Wilt Chamberlain, Rocky Marciano, The Brown Bomber Joe Louis are legends.

AND....this was "YOUR" top five non QB players of All Time, and since I can talk every player who ever played in the NFL starting in 1920, ya might wanna cool your bull and learn something, got it rookie?

Now if you'd had said.....Name Your Top 5 Non-QB Players Of All Time I Know About......then I'd keep it simple for ya.

Sad to watch those who know...0....about the game in with those of us who know everything about the game.

You had Jerry Rice number one, right?

I get this is over your head.....

When Hutson retired in 1945, he held 18 NFL records. He left the game with 488 pass receptions. The next player on the list had 190. His record of 99 career touchdown receptions stood for 44 years before Largent broke it, and still ranks ninth all time.

Here's another cat who knows the game.

There are some things in sports that one just accepts without hesitation. The New York Yankees are the greatest franchise in professional sports history. Michael Jordan is the greatest clutch player in basketball history. And Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver in NFL history.
However, what if a closer examination revealed...that the general public might be wrong?
What if Jerry Rice really isn't the greatest wide receiver in NFL history?
What if somebody 50, 60, even 70 years ago was better?
    Accept it. It's true.
Meet Don Hutson, wide receiver of the Green Bay Packers from 1935-1945.
Don Hutson, the greatest wide receiver in the 89-year history of the National Football League.

To compare Hutson and Rice, I have chosen five different topics to focus on: supporting cast, longevity, postseason, impact on the game, and most importantly, a statistical analysis.

    Key word...IMPACT...ok rookies?

You cannot talk hitters and not talk Ted Williams, right? Try and talk boxing without Sugar Ray Robinson, can't be done. Try talking the great QB's with no mention of Otto Graham or Johnny Unitas. Great kick returners with no Gale Sayers????
