A grieving family is speaking out after, they say, a United Airlines flight attendant forced them to put their dog in an overhead bin, where he died in flight. The 10-month-old French bulldog was kept there for the entire three-and-a-half hour trip from Houston to New York Monday. The airline has apologized.

United Airlines issued a statement accepting full responsibility for the incident, which it says is under investigation. Still, many are wondering how an experienced flight attendant could let this happen, reports CBS News' Kris Van Cleave.
"He was a really special dog. It's just sad the way he has to, just leave," said 11-year-old Sophia Ceballos. For Sophia and her mother, Catalina Robledo, Kokito was part of the family,

Robledo put the dog in a carrier but struggled to put Kokito's carrier under the seat in front of her. The family says a flight attendant insisted it go in the overhead bin.

Retired airline captain Denny Kelly says the pitch black overhead bin is dangerous for any live animal.
"There is no circulation at all in there," Kelly said. "They're scared, their heart rate goes up and they use more oxygen. And there's not enough oxygen in the first place, that just makes it worse."
Kokito's owners hope others learn from this death. The family says the flight attendant claimed afterward that she didn't know there was a dog inside the bag. She's been described as distraught.
The American Kennel Club says a French bulldog's short face can make its breathing less efficient. They stress easily, increasing their need to breathe.

How did man ever learn to fly without the canine?

    The mystery continues...

Can we seriously leave Beasely at home with the Butler...
If you can't fly without your Linus-blanket, use the tried and true method, just OD on a sedative.
Can we just take the bus to India with the entire farm in-tow.

How could the family just accept the flight attendant word on that?

Was it their first time flying with the dog?

Seems way too unbelievable to be true tbh

Slightly OT, but do dogs go through the conveyor belt or the metal detector at security?

It depends if they're packed in a suitcase or not.

Couldn't you just pack the dog with plastic explosive and stick a pen up its ass as a firing pin? I'm not an EOD guy, but curious

Yeah, you could do that for sure. Set it up so the detonation is pressure dependent.

I think it's BS for someone to bring their dog on the plane when they don't need it for a real reason. Seeing eye dogs are one thing, but this whole "emotional support animal" crap is such a dumb trend and needs to go away.

That said, is it really THAT hard to deal with it without killing the animal??

so you're expecting peeps to just leave their dogs at home alone or out in the yard where they could get lost and starve, dehydrate etc?
