Soda taxes are great things, given the diabetes epidemic.

it would make more sense in a single payer system... the idea being soda leads to health conditions that the healthcare provider needs to pay for, so makes sense to send soda consumption money their way.

the soda tax isn't obligatory, or confiscatory.

soda tax is not "raising taxes of the poor", but on everybody. and nobody's forcing the poor/anybody to drink sugary garbage

Do Soda Taxes Work? Not Unless Retailers Raise Prices

    https://hbr.org/2018/01/do-soda-taxe...s-raise-prices

The bigger issue is widespread ignorance about how to eat healthily, compounded by confusing, even for non-ignorant, conscientious-eaters, nutrition info from the nutrition/die ian crowd

the bigger problem, esp for poor people, is that S.A.D highly-processed food-like substances from BigFood/BigAg are very cheap, very ty compared to healthy food.

partly, and partly because they are lazy. I'm sure in some cases it's the only option. But it really only takes a few minutes to put something together at home.
Even conveniences stores are starting to offer healthier choices. But people get addicted to the taste of crappy fast food and aren't willing to sacrifice that for health.

And even if McDonald's is your only choice, it doesn't mean you need a Big Mac, Large Fries, and a Coke.

I think that should be up to the school districts.

I know a lot of lazy people who are not getting government help.
I love fries. I even get a McRib once a year. But I know enough to not eat fast food 5 days a week.

    Probably not.
Even if they did, I don't know how many parents will drive their kids to school and wait on them to have breakfast. Assuming that any kids during the summer would want to do that.

Fundamental economics. It provides a mitigation for negative externalities and cost-shifting.

We all pay for the health costs even in our current system of health care rationing. Cost and risk sharing are all taking place even here.
