This can get really complicated for sellers. Sales tax rates are different even within individual states depending on different city, county, and special district taxes. When I ship a product to a different city in Texas I often have to charge a different tax rate than if I sold it over the counter.

I've never understood why they haven't allowed for more members than 9 and also why a simple majority rule is the deciding factor in these incredibly important societal changing cases.

So 80% of Republican justices, 25% of Democrat justices voted for.

Feel really bad for small online sellers with this ruling. As CosmicCowboy said, there are a lot of different tax rates and rules that these sellers will now need to abide by. Costs to collect sales tax nationwide can easily run between $50-$100K annually.

some entrepreneur will build a database and apps to solve this problem for less-than-megacorp online sellers

cities and states would have a secure channel to maintain their tax rates (aka, self-interest)

The devil's in the details. the South Dakota law applies only to companies of a certain size, around 200 employees if I recall correctly.

The socialist advocate says that capitalism will solve this problem! No way!

I've had an issue last year on a $5,000 part. State sales tax is 4.5. The town in my address tack on another 2%. I don't live in town though. The guy on the phone was arguing with me. (I called because the tax was off). He kept saying, that's what the computer says. I ended up buying elsewhere.
