I'm the most family guy you can find, having Italian ancestry and . I would understand this course of action if the daughter was killed or they still couldn't find her, or even if the bad dude would get away with some lenient .
But no, this guy got the daughter back, she's going to need a support system around her, and he basically removed the family component from it. It's also a terrible lesson for the child.
I'm obviously telling you this not being in that situation and the emotions that go through it, which is very different than being in those shoes, but realistically speaking the only guy that needed his life ruined was the perp, and instead we end up with both the father and the child likely getting their lives ed up as well.
