Other lesser know, but really good situations currently open include Fairfield and of course Pepperdine. Two openings in the Southland Conference that are also very appealing are Texas-Arlington and Texas-San Antonio. It appears that Melvin Watkins, the former Texas A&M coach most recently an assistant at Missouri, will take over at UTSA.
Is he any good????

He has a pretty good track record. He didn't do too good at A & M. Other than that he is pretty good.
I guess Lynn Hickey must know him from the A&M days. I imagine she thinks he is decent at least. I heard he recruits very well.......we need that for sure. I thought Tim Carters recruiting stunk.
Tim Carter wasn't all that. I am glad they reassigned him and not fired him. He did a lot for UTSA, but they needed a change.

* Took over at UNC-Charlotte, and rode the prior coach's recruits to a NCAA bid, then got hired at A&M
* A&M tenure speaks for itself - great recruiter, great guy, can't coach x's and o's
* Took over at Mizzou when Quinn Snyder got canned, and went like 2-7 the rest of the way.
Defense is a foreign concept for him, but he'll bring in some good recruits.
Ok........so here is how I see it.
Watkins.......cant coach but CAN recruit
Carter.........cant coach or recruit
therefore..........Watkins > Carter
