Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder – Game #60

The San Antonio Spurs face another difficult test tonight when they play against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Frost Bank Center. Last game, the Spurs lost to the top seed in the Western Conference when they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 114-105 (see the Grades). Tonight, the Spurs take on a Thunder squad that has the second best record in the West at 41-17.

On the other side of the standings, the Silver and Black are at the bottom of the West with a record of 11-48. Only the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons have worse records; both teams are 9-49 on the season.

This will be the third of four meetings for the Spurs and Thunder this season. OKC won the first two matchups and are favorited to make it three in a row against San Antonio.

Rodeo Road Trip Rewind

The Spurs finished the 2023-24 Rodeo Road Trip with a record of 1-8. Their only win was in Toronto against the Raptors. Overall, San Antonio has lost five straight games and 12 of their last 13 contests.

The top scoring performance on the Rodeo Road Trip was Devin Vassell scoring 32 points against the Sacramento Kings. Vassell also had 30 points against the Orlando Magic.

ROTY: Victor Wembanyama versus Chet Holmgren

For much of the season, Chet Holmgren was the favorite to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. The big man for Oklahoma City is averaging 17.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 blocks, while shooting 54.2% from the field, 40.1% from three-point range and 77.7% from the free throw line.

However, after playing fantastic basketball in recent weeks, Victor Wembanyama is now the betting favorite to be named the ROTY. Wembanyama is averaging 20.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 blocks, while shooting 46.6% from the field, 31.7% from three-point land and 81.6% at the charity stripe.

Currently, Wembanyama’s ROTY odds are -750 while Holmgren’s odds are +500.

Betting Guide: Spurs at Thunder

The Thunder are 11.5-point favorites and the over/under is 238 points. With Victor Wembanyama extra motivated going against Chet Holmgren and the Spurs finally playing at home, the smart money is on the Spurs.
