The Hot List on ESPN just reported that Rudy T is stepping down from his job as head coach of the Lakers after tonights game.

That was a bad fit from the get go, regardless of what spin they put on it. Rudy T, a class individual, getting in bed with an organization that lets an alleged rapist, mal-content, selfish, egotistical, delusional, human being control the organization.

This makes it much easier rooting against the Lakers once again! I hope all is well with Rudy T.

I love the turmoil over there. I just hope that it's not anything serious. Espn said that health was an issue, but not the only one. Rudy is such a stand up coach. I wish he never would have went to the Lakers in the first place. Kobe doesn't deserve someone of that caliber. Kobe wants so much control over there, maybe he should just coach the team as well.

Why would he step down, the Lakers have done about as well as anyone expected. All we heard during the off season was that the Lakers would be right there near the last seed to make the playoffs and that's what's happened.

They are what, seventh right now with eight and nine breathing down their neck at something like a half game behind, that sounds about right.....

Either way Rudy T belongs in the Houston front office and he knows it....

Tomjanovich reportedly will resign
Lakers coach has been ill, but exact reason unknown

NBCSports.com news services
Updated: 3:54 p.m. ET Feb. 1, 2005

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich, in his first year with the team, will resign after the team's game Tuesday night for unspecified reasons, ESPN reported.

Tomjanovich missed Los Angeles' game against Charlotte on Sunday night because of a stomach virus.

Assistant coach Frank Hamblen, the only holdover from former coach Phil Jackson's staff era, guided the team against the Bobcats. He will become the interim coach, ESPN said.

Hamblen’s other experience as a head coach came with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1991-92, when Del Harris was sidelined by stomach problems. The Bucks were 23-42 under Hamblen.

"He's still not feeling real well but he's feeling a little better,' Hamblen told the Pasadena Star-News. "It's been a tough couple days. ... He did watch our game and he thought we played well and he was proud of the way the guys played. He said he enjoyed watching the game.'

Tomjanovich, who won a pair of NBA championships with the Houston Rockets, returned to the coaching ranks this season after recovering from bladder cancer.

Espn is saying that it's not a relapse of the cancer. They're saying that it's partly health related, and partly because of the play of his team.

Great we have to play them with a new coach.

Teams always play the hardest when they have the new coach their first game.

Maybe Rudy knows that the ship is sinking -- by the time the season ends, Rudy's time with the Lakers may make him look like the modern Red Auerbach (okay, so it's hyperbole....)

I hope that Rudy is well. He's a classy guy who deserves nothing but good, given all of the bad things he's overcome in his life.

The Lakers must be gripping that George Karl was just snapped up. Then again, maybe they can hire Doug Collins now, and Collins can get his chance to kiss Kobe's ass on a daily basis.

Well..I wish Rudy T the best....
Now, all of you ass pirartes who keep on saying it's Kobe's fault need to wake up...
I'm glad he's gone...seriously...the team has in my opinion underperformed with him as coach. His rotations are suspect, plus his love for the 3 ball make me sick. Even with Kobe out, all they run is Iso plays and everyone stands around. He's a good player coach on a personal level, but X's and O's he's pretty poor.

Awww shit I was just going to post that we now will get to hear about how much better the Lakers will be and how they will win the title now that they won't be held back by their coach! Damnit!!!

Oh and a new head coach has been named too....

A press row reporter that covers the Lakers was just on an LA local radio show(Hacksaw) and quoted a source stating that it was indeed a problem with Kobe.

Kobe wanted to play in the game against the Spurs because it was a nationally televised game but the coaching staff wanted to keep him out. Apparently, Kobe was going to force them to play him but of course, Kobe denies this.

I used to think that there was absolutely no possible way that I would ever feel bad for Shaq. After this past year discovering the true level of Kobe's class, I'm sorry to say that I actually feel bad for Shaq. How much advertising dollars has Kobe cost himself with his attitude?
I went to Rudy T's basketball camp in the early 80's at Blinn College in Brenham. He's one of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met in basketball and life in general. Do you think Coach K is feeling better about his decision to stick around Durham?

DAMN I HATE THE LAKERS!!

First of all - it has nothing to do with Kobe.

It has to do more with Buss and Rudy T. Word is the two had an argument before Sunday's game over style of play - Buss wanting the team to be more uptempo. Rudy T preferring to focus on mismatches.

Poor Rudy. He's always been way overrated as a coach, but nobody deserves this.

If Kobe was leading the league in scoring, his job would be safe.

T Park
02-01-2005, 09:20 PM
how has he been overrated?

IMO Rudy T is a pretty damn good coach.

A coach taking a team like the Rockets in 96, and surrounding Drexler and Olajuwon, with journeymen and stiffs.

any coach that can make Pete Chilcutt, a solid contributer, and Carl Herrera a valuable forward, is one hell of a coach in my book.

Aggie Hoopsfan
02-01-2005, 09:36 PM
Maybe he can get Tex Winter to come coach, that way he can run the triangle all day long.

Kobe's legacy is quickly becoming one of a chump.

As for Rudy, let's be honest - with Hakeem going Dream Shake for two post-seasons, he's got nothing.

adidas11
02-01-2005, 10:22 PM
How is this Kobe's fault???

Now, I'm not a big Kobe fan or anything, but does anyone have one iota of evidence suggesting Kobe in any way was behind this???

On the other hand, I haven't been entirely impressed with what Rudy T has done this season. Limiting the minutes of Luke Walton, not using Kareem Rush (which lead to his being traded), and under-utilizing Lamar Odom in the post.

He came, he saw, he left. Hopefully the Lakers will take their time, and choose wisely for their next coach, and not just pick a 'name' coach just for the sake of it.

If you were running the Lakers, who would YOU select to coach the team?

adidas11

I have a feeling (and I have no proof, so it's just an opinion) that Rudy T was expecting more as far as winning games when he joined the Lakers this season. Which is sort of silly, as any coach that coaches this team needs to understand that they are rebuilding, and won't be championship contenders for at LEAST 3 years.

T Park

Jerry Jones reincarnated?

mrblonde17
02-01-2005, 10:44 PM
So it took Jerry Buss half a season to figure out what style offense Rudy runs?

This is a Kobe deal just as much as Collins getting run from Chicago was all Jordan.
