Knopfler is probably one the most underated guitarists ever, but since Dire Straits called it quits, I just haven't been that impressed with his solo guitar work. No dig on Chet Atkins, but that style doesn't do much for me and I think that's where he was coming from post-Dire Straits.

Yeah, a lot miss out some great guitar work from Chet Atkins.
I remember watching a special with Chet and Mark Knopfler jamming.
It was incredible.

Ozzy's had some good ones. I caught Randy in his last performance in SA before he died. Damn he was something! If he had lived I think Eddie VH might have been an afterthought.

Aside from the already mentioned, I'd like to throw Scotty Moore's name into the ring as one of the most important guitarists of all time, although not necessarily the best.

And Robert Johnson on that same note.
