Bobcats make offers to Okafor, Hollins

The Charlotte Bobcats have extended qualifying offers to forward-center Emeka Okafor and center Ryan Hollins, the team announced Tuesday.

According to the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, a team must tender an offer by June 30 to retain the right of first refusal with a restricted free agent. The Bobcats have the right to match any offer made to Okafor and Hollins.

Okafor, the NBA’s Rookie of the Year in 2005, has averaged 14.3 points and 10.8 rebounds in 248 games for the Bobcats after they took him with the second overall pick in the 2004 draft.

Last season, Okafor averaged 13.8 points and 10.7 rebounds while playing in all 82 games for the first time in his career. He also a shot a career-best 53.5 percent from the field.

Hollins, taken in the second round of the 2006 draft, has averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 87 career games with Charlotte.

In other moves Tuesday, the Bobcats picked up the 2008-09 contract option on forward Jermareo Davidson but declined next year’s option on forward-center Othella Harrington, who was limited to 71 games in his two seasons in Charlotte due to a pair of knee surgeries.
