While Cassell has said he expects to return, a source close to the situation said Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas also have interest in his services.

Well, we know he was the veteran PG we should have gone after midseason, not MM.

We cycle through all the over the hill point guards.

Maybe they intend to run out Vaughn.

well...i guess he'd be a better 3rd pg than vaughn...but i would rather hill learn from vaughn and tony than cassell and tony. tony can teach him how to work under pop, and most of the offensive side of things. vaughn can teach him more of the intangibles and defense. sam i am would teach him to take the shot in crunch time...and he's too young for that!

besides, jacque would be cheaper.

:lol It's probably a rumor the author filled up. I mean, any over the hill/old player in the league and you can pretty much speculate that the Spurs may be interested in him.

If anyone watched the NBA Finals, you probably noticed that Cassell was so concerned about generating his own offense (and this is an old story) that he repeatedly ignored dumping the ball into the post. Rivers finally had to remove him. I don't know if he played another minute in the series, after an early appearance in the first couple of games. Dude has always been a shot-happy fool.

And let's not forget, he's always been a defensive liability. If he played defense with the same ferocity that he ran his mouth, he'd be an adequate defender.

I don't know why Pop is so enamored with these "over-the-hill", "past-their-prime", "shoot-first, ask questions-later", PGs. First NVE, then Stoudamire, now Cassell.

As far as I'm concerned, he can join Horry on the couch and they can talk about the good ol' Rockets days.

Ack. I'd rather keep Vaughn than sign Cassell.

But my first preference to go with Parker, Barry, and George Hill as our PGs.

It is odd. Pop would never put up with a shot happy young player but after that player gets established, Pop seems to trust them. Except, unfortunately, by that point they've lost almost all of their game.

It's sad, but true. Pop always seems to be hell-bent wanting to take plays and minutes away from a younger player. He should be more concerned with getting Hill ready and developed as soon as possible.

Cassell makes perfect sense as a Spur, plus, his name reminds me of 'hassle' which is what fans of rival teams do to me when the Spurs lose in the playoffs...which is what the Spurs will do again next year if they sign NVE Jr.

I think this is agent-speak trying to talk up a client.

It takes a lot for me to get mad about a basketball team but I would be furious if we really went out and wasted a roster spot on ET.

I wholeheartedly agree........my ideal backcourt for the Spurs next year would be Parker, Barry, and Hill.

Sweet. Then all the Spurs would have to do is convince Hakeem and the Jet to come out of retirement.

Not true, first we have 3 point gaurds now, he is washed up anyway...only interest would be as a coach...he has said he wants to coach after retirement

He has great court vision, but that's only because his eyes are on opposite sides of his head. Don't need him. Talks too much. Would probably annoy Duncan. And me.

lol @ him wanting to be a coach

Actually, I can see it. He would never shut up. Talking shit to his players for the entire game.

Doesn't Dallas have interest in signing all the players they've let go over the years? I hear they're trying to lure Jim Jackson out of retirement.

ive met him a few times......and he is even more ugly in person...but he has a good heart....as for his bb skills they used to be there...tell him to stay in shape come out retirement and then sign him as insurance...

Vaughn >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cassell

In terms of effort and defense, I would have to agree. Cassell takes half season's off before he shows up for a game. And at the same time, complains about his PT. :bang

Pass....

How about Speedy Claxton?

Best backup PG we've ever had

For the week that he was healthy, and the one game that he could consistently hit a 15 foot jumper. Funny how legends grow among those that should fucking know better.
