Matt, Montreal (Canada): Who can the Spurs go after? Do they have a shot at anyone, any rumors? Thanks...
SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:36 PM ET ) Spurs seem pretty focused on retaining their own guys, especially Kurt Thomas. Rockets are coming hard after Brent Barry, so Spurs could in the market for an inexpensive wing, but their tax situation appears to preclude any major expenditures.

Now that something actually does involve straight up numbers, Hollinger still gets it wrong.
Classic.

LOL. Seems like whenever something Spurs comes up, the local AND national guys get it wrong.

I guess he's assuming the Spurs wouldn't renounce Finley and/or Horry and that they will sign Thomas to a 3 year, $30 mil contract.

2007-08 Salaries:
Thomas $8.0 mil
Horry $3.6 mil
Finley $3.1 mil
Total...$14.7 mil
Assuming the Spurs retain Thomas for something starting around $4 mil, the Spurs would reduce their payroll by $10 mil with Thomas' new deal and renouncing Finley and Horry.

Holly on George Hill:
Bazzy (Knoxville, TN): Draft Question: is George Hill as good as the Spurs think he is? Gimme numbers, Mr. Hollinger!
SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:52 PM ET ) I don't think he was the best point guard in his own city --- I had the guy from Butler rated higher. But Hill was a legit draft prospect by my #s, if a stretch as a first-rounder.

Jim (Cibolo, TX: Do you think the Spurs have a chance to pickup either JR SMITH or JOSH CHILDRESS this off season?
SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:55 PM ET ) No -- they're both restricted and Spurs can only offer midlevel, which isn't enough to scare off their teams. Although the comedy potential of J.R. Smith on the Spurs would be worth any dollar amount.
So the Spurs won't make any moves because of the luxury tax, but they are going to offer their MLE?
John Hollinger: (4:13 PM ET ) Folks, that's all the time I have, but thanks again for all the great questions -- over 4,000 today, more than I could answer if I did this nonstop for a week, but I did the best I could. We'll do this again at the same time next week.
Too bad Holly didn't respond to the question from Bill Pana of Greece about the Spurs' lux tax non-situation.

That means you could answer 4,000 questions in 3 days, 7 hours and 12 minutes.
Restart that calculator. Thanks.

Still not as dumb as his take on why the Suns could win the series down 0-3.

God, I hate the idea of 'renouncing' Horry....I wish he'd just announce that he's retiring.

What's that about the Rockets coming hard after Barry.....didn't he sign through the '08-'09 season?

Houston sports talk radio guys say Houston is looking hard at Barry and Sam Cassell. Also maybe a S&T for Artest--although what they'd do with Battier no one can figure.

how can they do a sign and trade with Artest if Artest is already under contract with the Kings?
