UltimateBet to sponsor Eva Longoria’s Charity Event

Online poker site UltimateBet on board as sponsor of casino night to benefit Eva Longoria’s charity organization

UltimateBet today announced the sponsorship of the first annual Tony and Eva Parker Celebrity Casino Night benefiting Eva’s Heroes. Founded by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, Eva’s Heroes is dedicated to enriching the lives of those with developmental challenges and helping children and young adults with special needs to integrate and flourish in society.

“I’m incredibly excited that the popularity of poker is able to help such an important cause and I’m unbelievably honored to be associated with this charity,” stated UltimateBet pro Phil Hellmuth who is on board to emcee the event.

The celebrity poker tournament gets underway on August 9th at Pedrotti’s North Wind Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. The $300 buy-in tournament includes a buffet dinner, $10,000 in chips for the Texas Hold’em tournament and an additional $2,000 in chips for all other casino games. The winner of the poker tournament will leave with a seat in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event in Vegas, donated to Eva’s Heroes by UltimateBet.

To help raise additional money for Eva’s Heroes, UltimateBet has also donated an Aruba Poker Classic prize package to the casino night’s live auction. The prize package includes a seat in this year’s Main Event plus a head-to-head poker game and a lesson with Phil Hellmuth in his personal suite in Aruba. The 2008 Aruba Poker Classic gets underway on September 27th and several celebrities have already confirmed their attendance including actor Don Cheadle and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

With some of the biggest stars of television and sports slated to attend the charity poker tournament, Access Hollywood, Extra and Entertainment Tonight are expected to cover the event. Already confirmed are Eva Longoria, Tony Parker, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, Katie Chonacas, Tim Duncan, Sean Elliott, Willie Garson, Jennifer Morrison, Adam Rodriguez, Leeann Tweeden and David Zayas.

More information on UltimateBet’s sponsorship is available at http://www.evasheroes.org/casinonight.html.

It's a sure bet Eva's Heroes is a winner
Michael Quintanilla

By the hundreds, from across Texas, New York, California and Sin City itself (that would be Las Vegas), they came with their game faces on — that hungry whatever-happens-here (that would be Helotes) -stays-here look.

Tony Parker wore it. So did his wife, Eva. And their celebrity pals. Ditto for their San Antonio friends, too, all who had a helluva time in H-town at the Tony & Eva Parker Celebrity Casino Night: glitz, glamour and gambling for Mrs. Parker's nonprofit Eva's Heroes, founded two years ago to help developmentally disabled children and young adults.

Red Carpet Ride: As an estimated 1,200 guests jammed into the Lone Oak Ballroom lobby of Pedrotti's North Wind Ranch (a glorified banquet hall), a small gathering of Hollywood celebs from the tube and film donned their best poker duds (women in Stuart Weitzman stilettos, Tina Tarantino gems and body-hugging sheaths; men in relaxed denim and tuxedo jackets).

The Set-Up: For $100 a pop, guests dined on 345 pounds of tenderloin (filet mignon wrapped in bacon), 384 pounds of chicken breast (with mushroom sauce), 500 pounds of potatoes (twice baked), 300 pounds of green beans (in a heavy cream sauce) and 240 pounds of salad and received $2,000 in chips for casino games that included blackjack, roulette, craps, slots and the money wheel. For $300, guests got the above in addition to $10,000 in chips for the Texas Hold 'Em tournament that included 276 players.

Celeb Watching: San Antonio's own Ricardo Antonio Chavira of “Desperate Housewives,” Jennifer Morrison (“House”), Adam Rodriguez (“CSI: Miami”), David Zayas (“Dexter”), Leeann Tweeden (“Poker After Dark”), Katie Chonacas (“Righteous Kill”), poker pro and the night's emcee Phil Hellmuth, known as the “Poker Brat,”and Spurs B-ballers Tim Duncan and Sean Elliott.

S.A. Notables: Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, former city councilman and mayoral hopeful Julian Castro, local film producer and actor Jesse Borrego and U.S. Rep. Charlie Gonzalez. “Being a fiscal conservative,” Gonzalez said with his best poker face, “I remained in the game for an inordinate amout of time.” How much did he lose? “Everything,” he said. “I'm rebuilding as we speak.”

Props to the Alamo City: “San Antonio has such a great heart,” said Longoria-Parker. “Anytime there's a chance for the community here to get involved, everyone in San Antonio steps forward and tonight is proof of that. I'm hoping that we'll raise $200,000 to $250,000 for a bigger staff and more programs for the children.”

Eva-lasting Love: Throughout the Texas Hold 'Em tourney, Eva at table 13 and Tony at table 27 visited each other constantly and whispered words of poker encouragement. Clearly the honeymoon isn't over for these two as they hugged and snuggled. At one point Tony stood behind his wife with his hand on her shoulder as she nuzzled her cheek on his palm.

Working the room: Talk about being the host with the most. Parker graciously thanked guests, personally stopping at just about every table (27 in all) to meet, greet and chat up poker players.

Brush with celebrity: Janie Garcia, a 44-year-old tatooed claims adjuster with USAA, sat next to Longoria-Parker during the tournament. But win or lose, she didn't really care because she had the best seat in the house. Her husband, Rudy, was also pretty lucky. He sat next to former Spurs superstar Elliott.

It was pretty cool last night, I didn't play poker, but I fared pretty well on the roulette table.

Phil Hellmuth ran the live auction, as well as emceeing the poker tourney. Tim was there in his usual Addidas tee and UFC hat, Tony and Sean were there. But the funny thing was that I didn't see Eva, I knew she was there, because she made an announcement on the P.A., but I guess she just blended in with the crowd too well.

It was a pretty good time, if they do this again next year, Ill go again. It was money spent on a good cause.
