Viva Las Espuelas
07-02-2008, 12:48 AM
yeah. and this "day" in question.......is it the whole day, 24 hours or the actual "day" part of the day. plus isn't "stood" past tense? does this take place when it's standing or after it stood? so many questions. so little time.

I'll admit, I've never seen the original, but they're showing it on AMC right now and in 45 minutes I will have seen the original.
I dont even think Jennifer Connolly's tits would save this remake (like she'd even show them anymore). It's like the second a high budget Sci Fi movie comes out the first name that pops up at the brainstorming table is Keanu fucking Reaves. This carpenter character is a cool cat, I think Keanu will basically put a Neo spin on the character and speak very slow and overdramatically for every line.

The original is one of those perfect pieces of entertainment that only Hollywood knows how to do so well.

Or should I say "knew" how to do. Can't Hollywood come up with anything original anymore?

I hope the youngsters out there will give the original a chance, it's a sci-fi masterpiece.

That was back when scifi was about story, not special effects.

They took a classic story and changed it 100% to a baseless political BS point?

It's basically Silver Surfer meets Noah's arc.

Saw it...it sucked. And I usually like Keanu Reeves movies btw....but this role bordered on self parody and that's saying something with Keanu.

The original was way better.

I didn't get strong political vibes from this, probably because the ones that were there were cliched and the original had heavy political themes anyway. I've been long since desensitzed to that sort of preaching. Whatever political themes there were in this movie, they certainly weren't anything we haven't seen or heard before...hundreds of times...probably why I didn't notice them that much.

No, for me this movie was heavy on the religious overtones with Keanu's character being very christlike in many ways, and the decision to wipe humanity from the Earth being akin to the biblical apocalypse.

Something about the way he he said, "Your planet? No, it isn't."

There were some interesting science/biblical alegories in this movie...but not enough to keep it from being a boring suckfest. Pretty much the worst movie I have seen since Son of the Pink Panther.

***This might be a spoiler***

The more I think about it,

If there was other intelligent life out there (which there has to be) and they actually knew about us and were lightyears ahead of us in technology like many want to believe....

You'd think they would have invaded us by now before we inevitably destroy Earth; assuming Earth is somewhat unique and a valuable intergalactic resource.

This was probably a decent movie but it just paralleled Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for me to get into it.

If there were intelligent life out there, they'd know we couldn't possibly destroy the planet even if we wanted to. Otherwise they'd have probably diverted that meteor that hit us 65 million years ago just to be safe.

Ok people it really was NOT this bad. The product placements were horrible and so is the thought of the US relying on violence for EVERYTHING.

if you haven't seen the original, I dare you to watch it without laughing. And I'm not referring to the SFX either. If anything the older version has a stronger message but in the same manner, it's cornier and a bore fest too.

The newer one is definitely a good watch, just not at 10 per ticket though.

Saw this last night.....the movie isn't horrible. It's just not very good.

The cheesiness factor is surprisingly low, the dialogue was decent for a popcorn movie of this sort. The movie starts off pretty decently, but things just get monotonous and the ending just kind of happens and you don't care enough to notice. There really isn't much at all that I hated about this movie, but there was nothing to love either.

The only real complaint I have is Will Smith's kid, who has to be tied with Anakin from Phantom Menace or the kid from Unbreakable as "the most annoying child in a movie ever".

I heard Will Smith's kid is trying to remake "The Karate Kid", but with no Mr. Mayagi. Instead, video games will have taught him everything about martial arts.
