Could you pass the latest citizenship test?
In October 2008 a new version of the U.S. citizenship test will be taken by all applicants. Could you pass it? The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 samples that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview. Some are easy, some are not. We have picked some of the more difficult ones.

NOTES: Candidates are not given multiple choices in the naturalization interview. The following questions have been adapted from the immigration service’s sample questions.

I got 85%.

I picked New Hampshire as not being one of the 13 original colonies.
I said there are 7 Supreme Court Justices.

I legitimately missed those two...

:lol and the final one, I said Congress did not have the power to declare war...I knew that was the wrong answer, yet for some reason it seemed funny to pick that one and I couldn't resist doing so....pretty sure it has to do with the ST political forum.

I aced that motherfucker. I can still remember being one of only two people in a high school government class of about 30 people with a projected passing score. I think it'd be nice to force natural born citizens to take this and when they fail, deport them to somewhere for a week or so.

65-80%: Hey, you may make a good citizen yet! Look at your wrong answers and a little revision should do the trick.

1) How many of your relatives can fit in a Chevy Cavalier?

2) How wide is the Rio Grande at its narrowest point?

3) What kind of tomatoes grow best in the South Texas climate?

4) How many inches high should grass be after mowing it?

5) How much Fabuloso should be diluted in a gallon of water?

Worthless. I don't see why someone who wants to become a citizen of the U.S. needs to know any of this information.

Here's the test I would give.

1. How do you count to 10 in English?
a. 一, 二, 三, 四, 五, 六, 七, 八, 九, 十
b. Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro, Cinco, Seis, Siete, Ocho, Nueve, Ten
c. One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten
d. Ask your manager

2. If a customer purchases a combo meal from you for $4.94 and gives you a $10 bill, how much change should the customer receive?
a. $4.94
b. $10
c. $5.06
d. Ask your manager

3. If a customer purchases a combo meal from you for $4.94 and gives you $10.04, how much change should the customer receive?
a. $4.94
b. $10
c. $5.10
d. Ask your manager
e. Stare at the customer blankly until he takes back the $.04 so you can simply hit the $10 button on the register.

4. Is auto insurance required for all drivers?
a. Yes
b. No
c. Not if you don't get caught
d. Both B and C

5. If you are speaking with someone and they are having trouble understanding you due to your regional or international accent, it is okay to get frustrated and yell at them after how many attempts at repeating yourself?
a. Two
b. Three
c. Five
d. Never. Please speak more slowly and more clearly.

Can there at least be some sort of caste system, by which I and the others who scored perfectly would be recognized as superior to the rest of you? Maybe a tax break, or the right to select a couple of laws that no longer apply to me.

If I actually knew you better, I would give you some form of good natured ribbing involving funny ways to pick boyfriends using this post...

As it is, I will keep my smart-assery to myself. For now.... buwahahahaha

You don't get those things by scoring perfectly on a test. You get those things by donating large sums of money to Republicans.

If I knew you better, I would tell you to go ahead and advise me. But I am worried I might get more advice than I can handle.

And as I am not in the market for a boyfriend, the whole point is moot anyway.

20/20.

In Illinois, you used to have to pass a state-administered test on the Constitution during the 7th grade. I don't know if they still do that, but I thought it was pretty cool at the time to have a dedicated class just on the Constitution.

You answered 85% of questions correctly. Here's your rating:

0-20%: Maybe you're still thinking too much about the Old Country.

25-40%: Mmmm. Do you really want to be a citizen? This kind of performance isn't going to impress those nice immigration folks.

45-60%: Not too bad, but you really need to break out the civics books again -- word is, the INS is looking for an 80 percent score.

65-80%: Hey, you may make a good citizen yet! Look at your wrong answers and a little revision should do the trick.

85-100%: Welcome to the United States! (And, truth be told, you know more about this great land than most Americans.)
