from rotoworld
Free agent swingman Devean George has at least six teams interested in signing him, including the Suns, Spurs, Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Hornets and Mavericks.
The Mavs have made George a free agent priority, but after giving their entire mid-level exception to DeSagana Diop, George could be lured away by a bigger payday.

He did guard David West pretty well in the first round but he shouldn't even be considered unless the Spurs make a trade that leaves extra roster spots and George wants the minimum.

why the hell are we interested?

No thanks, and I don't know why the Mav's would be making him a priority. What's going on in Maverick land, have they gone crazy?

There's no guarantee that the Spurs are going to be able to end up with a stellar 5th swingman. If they use their MLE on another player(s) - if two, I'm assuming one would be a big - then they will have the LLE, minimum contracts, and their trade exceptions to try to land a 5th swingman. George isn't stellar, but the Spurs would need someone who could play spot duty.

George is a good defender and rebounder but his offense is horrible.

I doubt that he seeks minimum. Didn't he spoiled Mavs-Nets trade because of Bird rights?

I'll put it this way:

I'd rather have Finley back before having this goon on the team.

The most the Spurs could offer him (and should) would be the LLE for two years. Still, I'd prefer them to go after one of these young project swingmen they've expressed interest in instead of him. But I can see why they'd be interested.

I'd rather bring Michael Finley back.

That tells you what I think of Devean George.

I'd rather give Gist or that other guy Hairston(?) a spot on the team to start developing than take an old washed up ex-laker like George.

George's Return To Dallas More Unlikely

Jul 20, 2008 3:02 AM EST
At least six teams are interested in Devean George, according to the Dallas Morning News, but after signing DeSagana Diop there may not be any money left for him in Dallas.

"I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope right now," Donnie Nelson said. "We're pretty far apart as far as the numbers go."

The Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New Orleans Hornets have expressed interest in George. According to the report, Boston may also enter the mix after losing James Posey to the Hornets.

I cannot see this bum pulling anything but a minimum deal, and even then, I don't want him. I'd bring back Marcus Williams or Alfrederick Hughes before signing George.
