View Full Version : What do you think Plan B is if we don't get CM?

I hope like heck that we sign CM.

But like everything else, there is always a chance that something can happen at the last minute.

What do you think Pop and RC have as contingency plans if CM decides to go elsewhere.

At this point I think there are a lot of plans B, C, and D. The main ingredient for the moment is luck: the Spurs wait and see who the teams with money beyond the MLE decide on and are able to sign, and then proceed from there. To be honest, I'm still cautiously optimistic. There are decent pieces out there and the Spurs need a tweak, not an overhaul. Any of these guys would make me happy: Maggette, Smith, Pietrus, Azubuike, Posey, Gomes, Delfino... If Hairston or Gist make the team, or if the Spurs find a summer league surprise, that's extra good news... And if Bosh comes in '10...well, I guess I'm getting ahead of myself there...

Im not sure the Spurs go after JR Smith if they have to wait on Maggette and then lose n out..... Pietrus seems like the safer option... so i assume they'll pursue him.

Unless JR Smith tells them he will sign with them... because i believe they would prefer him abvove the rest... theyll go with Pietrus.

JR Smith. He'll wait to see where the money goes just like any other FA this year. Philly is going to fuck everything up because it looks like they'll probably offer to Josh Smith (RFA), get matched after a week, then offer to Josh Childress (RFA). That could make the whole process drag out until almost August.

I don't see any FAs signing any offer sheets with anyone until the cap money for Memphis, GS, and Philly is signed away.

No Maggette....the spurs will go after Mason, J Hayes and Delfieno....Im not buying the JR Smith rumors.....I think there is an outside chance we go after Ricky Davis.....Or possibley Krystic from Jersey. Dont rule out a trade........and if Marberry is cut from NY I would not be surprised if they went after him. I know he is not a spurs type player but he can score in bunches and would allow Manu to start and he would be the 6th man....again last option.......but its better him than Fin and Barry again!

They both want the MLE, which is what is causing Boston problems with trying to sign Posey and Maggette, who also both want the MLE.

You know that Marbury had a complete meltdown shit fit when NY tired to get him to take the 6th man role last year, don't you? Bad idea.

Azubuike (a long shot now), JR (might still be interested in Spurs), Posey (if Celts use the MLE on someone like CM), and Pietrus (cross your fingers that it doesn't come down to him).

Did you copy and paste all that crpa from the agent handbook forum?

Lots of stupid ideas.

All good business decisions aside, do you really want Maggette? He's always injured, and any team that invests in him will not get a good return. He'll be constantly going on and off the disabled list, and any momentum that he builds up when he's healthy for a short period of time will quickly disappear when he gets hurt again.

I think they'll go for a combination of Roger Mason and Kelenna Azubuike.

we aren't getting JR Smith IMO..

if we can simply get Pietrus or Azubuike with a backup guard like Delfino, or even get Barry back, then we're still one of the top contenders..

Maggette would just make us the #1 team IMO..

If the Spurs were interested in Pietrus I think we would have heard about that as much as Maggette by now and they have to know Denver will match any offer Smith would get (If he proves still immature they have a great trade asset in February)

if those are our 3 options, then that's terrible for a starting job..

I haven't heard anybody having an interest in Pietrus, other than minimal hype from Detroit..

we'll hear more about the other FA's once the higher profile guys like Maggette and Posey are out of the way..

I'd be surprised if the Spurs had no interest in Pietrus..he fits our team needs, and he's one of the best available options..

Do you remember the movie The In-Laws with Alan Arkin and Peter Falk? In one scene they are about to be executed by a firing squad and Arkin says:

Sheldon: OK, what's Plan B.

Vince: Plan B? There is no Plan B.

plan b...re-load and do it again...we are a top five team in this league, we lost this season because we couldn't hit shots and manu wasn't healthy...the addition of another "role player" may or may not help this...ask yourself this, will any of this additions even start...yes they will replace barry or who ever else doesn't come back but you have to know we are pretty damn good as is.

that being said...we at least have to try and get the best players.

Does this not sound familiar? I mean, once again, look at the draft. If we on SpursTalk are mentioning the player, that probably means we are no where close to getting him. We have said: "I haven't heard anything about this player so we probably won't get him", that means that is exactly the direction the Spurs will go. Spurs = Opposite of what we think...

Did you not watch the Finals this year?

Posey gave Kobe trouble every time he was on him, he hustled harder than ANYBODY on the court, and he hit some BIG TIME 3's.

He's definitely Spur-ready.

Spurs Plan B:
- Resign Finley
- Resign Barry if he's still available
- Save Money
- Pray that Mahimi and our first round pick develop into something in limited minutes before the season's end.

Not that I want it to be like this, but I can definitely see it unfolding like that.

Reasons Maggette SHOULD come here: 1] We start him at the #2 and then can let the best 6th man since Havlicek do his magic. He wants to start. In Boston or Philly he won't. GS will probably not make the playoffs without Davis and how vital is Maggette in that shot-happy offense. 2] The Spurs give him the best chance to go deep into the playoffs every year. 3] We have the best weather during the basketball season and 6 mill goes much further in SA than any of the other competitive cities.
That being said Maggette may have " Steven Jackson syndrome" aka 'Speedy Claxton disease"---take the most $$$ and never play on a truly competitive team again but I'm happy. PLAN B should be NOT to let Maggette stretch this out beyond Wednesday. Since our offer can't change--- why would he stretch this out? The Spurs should not become some pitiful suitor, who for weeks, goes begging "Please marry me, please marry me!" without an answer. If we play that game we take the chance of not getting what we need. By Thursday we should offer the MLE to either JR Smith, Mason or Azuibuke etc.

Kori, if the Spurs obtain neither Maggette, Posey nor Smith, would you consider it a sufficient offseason were they to sign Delfino and a couple others on that level? Would you like their chances next season, assuming they could stay healthy?

I read a blog the other day and it said that Posey's agent said they've narrowed down the teams to Boston and San Antonio.

Now, I know it was just a blog, but I'm guessing the person that wrote it must have read that information somewhere.

All of you that mentioned tanking or Ricky Davis should die...seriously. JR Smith gives me an uneasy feeling too.

I say split the MLE between Pietrus and one of the available bigs...Mason or Najera.

SIGN JR SMITH or AZUBUIKE....or Posey. If we cannot get all of them than FUCK RC BUFFORD...He should be getting someone good this season or he should be fucking fired (I'm excited that all these agents continue their careers outside SA. I wish them luck in the future). His secret move better be working or he can chooke himself to death eating pepperoni pizza
