Among the six outside teams interested in Wright are Denver, Philadelphia and San Antonio. Teams are "intrigued by his upside and his youth." Wright is 22

Since the Heat extended the qualifying offer of $2.4 million the Spurs are going to have to overpay based on past performance and pay based on what they feel is the kid's potential if they want to pry him loose from Miami. This would be a large chunk of the MLE. Is he worth that?

Now teams are overspending JUST to keep their own FAs. Unbelievable!

Does nothing for our scoring problems.

It's possible that the Spurs could get him if the Heat sign Jones. They could split the MLE between him and Mason or Giricek.

I haven't seen a 21/22-year-old who wasn't "inconsistent."

Miami will prefer to get nothing for Wright instead to get stuck with Bonner contract.
please be realistic, we know that every spurs fan want to get read of Bonner because he useless and he has bad contract, but also every team know that!!

Miami is full up with SFs now that they signed Jones and already have Marion.
Here's a comparison of Wright and Bowen--except Wright is 10 years younger and several inches taller.
Career FG % 46--last season 48% 3s 36% FTs 82% PPG 7.9 RPG 5.9
Compare to Bowen: FG. 40.1% 3s 41% FTs 65% PPG 6 RPG 2.9
Advantage WRIGHT!
Pretty much a wash on other stats except his were gained playing 25 mpg vs. Bowen over 30.

Which is exactly the reason why Miami has Mark Blount, otherwise known as Bonner v1.1 with no 3point range and older. :rolleyes

Right now we need more offense (J.R. Smith) than defense.
Have we even talked to Smiths agent?

according to Flo-Rida's post in the NBA forum, the Heat agreed with James Jones, putting Dorell's future in doubt... http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100874

That they signed Jones really increases the chances of getting Wright. But I don't know if he really fills the "fourth scorer" role for the Spurs. For a reasonable price I would love to have him but a real scorer is the real need in my opinion.

IMO, wright is not being signed to be a scorer but to be a decent defensive option on your taller small forwards or your more nimble power forwards. he can't stop dirk but his length and athleticism may have come in handy versus west and odom last year.

I'd rather have him than Smith, and for the money, I'd rather have him than Maggette.

I think Miami will match any offer for 2 yrs but if he gets a third year miami may let him walk because like us they are saving for summer 2010....I think the spurs should go after him and even with a contract that goes into 2010 we are still in the running to have max money to give a player and get another really good player too.

I honestly doubt the Spurs are looking to him to be that fourth scorer. I think they see him more as a defensive option. He's long and can guard the three and some fours.

If Spurs plan B is a restricted agent, whether it's Dorell Wright, JR Smith or Azubuike, they need to sign him really quickly (today or tomorrow).
When a team go after a RFA, the MLE is locked for 7 days and you can end up with nothign if the other team match.
The soonest you made the offer, the soonest you can go to plan C in case of the other team matches Spurs' offer.

Doesn't he already score more than Bowen?
