View Full Version : Rockets Sign Brent Barry

Basically a done deal.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5881884.html

Nothing ground breaking, but a great signing. I'm pretty sure Brent Barry won't disappear like Luther Head does. Luther is gone. All the Rockets need to do now is get the deal with Carl Landry complete. Once that happens, then the Rockets are through with FA.

You guys are in for more of a treat than you think. Barry is a great player. Just make sure you treat him well. It's just not gonna feel right without Barry. :(

Son of a bitch. We sign Anthony Mason and draft George Costanza, and the Rockets come and snatch another quality player from us.

Its too bad Brent will end his career with TMac and co. just like his brother, but he'll be taking a couple championship rings to retirement, unlike Jon.

Barry is not a great player.

As long as he is better than Luther Head, which he most definitely is. That is all the Rockets need from him. Luther is gone from this place. :toast

Yeah, as long as we are healthy...

I doubt we make it through the whole season entirely healthy, I mean no team does, but I really hope we are at full strength in the playoffs.

I'm not superstitious so here goes: No matter what I say, it will NOT impact whether the rox stay healthy or not. With that said, the league should be very VERY afraid of a healthy rox team:toast

The league has taken this approach to deal with the rox: "yes, tmac and yao are dominating and playing out of their minds winning xx games in a row....but give it some time and one or both will be injured so wgaf"

Healthy rox = :lobt2:

celtics, pistions, sixers, cavs, mavs, spurs, suns, jazz, lakers, blazers don't stand a chance:wow

Don't we hear that every year? At what point do people admit this team won't win anything as they're currently constituted?

Morey said in 2010 they will be looking for that third superstar. I think they will ask T-Mac to come back albeit at a lower pay.

If you really think some of our rockets fans are that uneducated in watching basketball then you are wrong. The barry brothers are among the few nba players that really mastered the fundamentals of basketball. All those people hype on those young draft picks with so called "potentials" they will never understand why Brent Barry is such a special addition to the Rockets.

I think Barry could use some work on defensive fundamentals :lol

He's 36. you cant teach YOUTH. this is another injury waiting to happen...
However, it WILL take away some of Wafer's minutes so THATS a plus.

CLUTCH CITY 2008!

I will miss Barry... he had a lot of great games for us. However it is a YOUTH MOVEMENT going on now with the Spurs it seems... so if he was not gone this upcoming season he would have been gone the next one...I have no problem with this; it is business.

Barry should be able to inject some movement into Houston's offense.

What are the chances the Spurs in Barrys eyes fucked him? They traded him, he sat out a month so he could resign with the Spurs when other teams wanted to sign him. I wonder if he has bitter feelings. Or did he not want to play for the Spurs anymore?

Same goes for the Rockets should we ever meet you in the first round.

For some strange reason, even though the Spurs have been a better team...they've never handled the Rockets well....so, 4-1....i think not.

shaq and amare are one dimensional--they can dunk or rebound, take your pick.

can't shoot fts and the midrange J is nonexistant or inconsistent(amare).

grant hill, shaq, and nash are in wheelchairs

diaw has heart and barb is quick

but the rox will destroy your suns next year:toast

We'll see about that. It is pretty known that Barry is way up there in age. His decline will be rapid as most that get to his age.

Please...all we need from him, is to knock down threes and give us another player that can make a post entry pass, that's it.

He's hardly making anything, so it's not like we signed to a long term contract.

P.S.

Jason Kidd is..........."done". He was getting owned by quicker and younger PGs last season, that was a grade "A", fantastic trade the Mavs made. :lol

GuerillaBlack

Devin Harris would have gotten owned, but at least he was relatively young.

Players that rely more on smarts than athleticism can compete well past the age where most others are out of the league.

While Barry may be a minor signing, he is a HUGE signing for the Rockets......he can be that 2nd creative player on the floor when Tmac and Yao are being doubled.

Brent Barry will get a lot of wide open opportunities...much like playing with Duncan and Manu......

Houston will be very glad to have him.....we could still use a 3rd scorer, but a team that finished only 2 games out of first in the ENTIRE Western Conference just got a bit better......

That, is a good thing.
