No one can really say. Haven't seen what the rooks or Ian can contribute or how they will fit into the mold. The Lakers, roster-wise, were given up on by their franchise player before the start of the 2007-08 season and look where they wound up.

1. LA Lakers
2. The NOOCH
3. UTA
4. SAS
5. Houston
6. Dallas
7. Phx
8. Portland
9. Denver

As a side note -- does anyone know if "Oklahoma City" has changed divisions, or are they going to be in the NW playing out of OKC?

Verrrrrry premature. The Spurs were just in the final 4 last month with an injured Manu. The Spurs aren't quite finished with their roster yet. Many people in here were saying that taking minutes away from Finley and Horry would be a good thing.

Predicting the position of finish in the West is basically futile anyway, nowadays.

Spurs will not take Home Court for vantage next season, pops will play to win more games in reg season we will finish 1st or second.....Remember we were only out 1 game last year from first......Utah is not a better team, nor NO......Teams will not be caught off gaurd by the Lakers or Hornets like last year......Houston is a darkhorse....Portland will push nuggets for playoffs

Hey SD, that was last month. This month "age" is in.

BTW, is your middle initial "T"?

WGAF about seedings? Boston was the first team in 6 years to win a title as a 1-seed.

Spurs will end the season as a 2 seed.

No, but if it was, I'd make sure I had something like a "U" in there after it.

I still think the Spurs and Lakers are the top two, but it seems the Spurs have developed that attitude that the Shaq led Lakers use to have. "Just get one of the top 4 seeds and we will be fine." You cant have that attitude these days because the teams are so close in talent.

Going balls out in the regular season gets you nowhere but on empty in the playoffs: see the 06 Pistons, 07 Mavs, and the 05-07 Suns.

The problem for the Spurs is the rest of the WC is not going to be standing still. I'm not counting them out yet, but as of right now I wouldn't even place them in the top 3 WC teams next season.

The Spurs mainly have to get back to be an intimidating team on the road regardless of their overall record. When the confidence that they can pull close games out on other teams' courts is there, good things have usually followed.

One Brent Barry non call foul and we'd be 2-2 going to LA....this team just needs some tweaking I think.

Proof, see 2004 and 2006.

We were only one game out with The Big 3 all missing games. I know the Lakers never had Bynum and Gasol play together but I don't see why we can't contend for first and even beat out NO for second, especially if we can keep Thomas in the mix at center and have a draft pick that actually makes the roster.

A little off topic from this thread but when is the last time the spurs drafted a player and he played that same season/

Agree, Lakers will certainly be tough even if they keep Odom but let's hope for a little healthier year and for these young guys that play to bring some energy off the bench. That 1 seed is key, imagine if we could have played Denver and Utah instead of Phoenix and NO.

Why is the question even being asked when we're in the middle of the free agency signing period? There will likely be a lot roster movement (trades, buyouts, whatever)before training camp starts.

It's all early speculation. Any contending team could suffer a devasting injury and more than one of them could throw in the towel and get rid off key players. I don't think the west will be as close as last year, but it will be fun if it is.

I honestly doubt the Number 1 seed is as important about matchups, considering how strong the western conference is, as it is about having home court IN those matchups. Had we of gained homecourt against NO and LA, I doubt we go home without a Finals appearance, minimum.

One or two more wins when Pop appeared to be playing around with the rotation would've been huge at the end of the season.

The coming year could be even worse if he experiments a lot with rookies and uses the unproven Mahimi and Mason as starters or gives them big minutes.

There are so many unknowns about this coming year and so many unproven players expected to play important roles that I think we could enter the playoffs further down in the seeding than last year, meaning we might play LAL or NO early.

I agree. This year, it'd have been nice to play Denver instead of Phoenix, in addition to having homecourt against Utah. However, the western conference is too close to really believe any team will snare an easy path to the Finals, even a 1 seed.

Just look at LA. It "seems" like they had by far the easiest way to the Finals of either team. But they lost pretty convincingly.

Or how about Boston? Despite home court in every series, all 4 went at least 6 games.

The coming year could be even worse if he experiments a lot with rookies and uses the unproven Mahimi and Mason as starters or gives them big minutes.

Eh, I'm pretty sure its the general consensus Pop isn't just "experimenting" with the rookies next season,. Instead, he plans for at least Hill and Mahinmi to make a big impact. I don't know why everyone is fretting when with those two guys, we've addressed the backup PG problem as well as added the athletic big next to Tim since the '99 version of D Rob. Of course the doubters will make the argument they're unproven, but its void and nil. I'm sure just having some young legs in the rotation is going to freshen this team up exponentially.

In truth, I doubt the spurs get below a 4-5 seed. Which means we probably would play a team like Utah first, not NO or LA, which are of course locks for a tie for 82-0 with Boston, Houston, and every other team thats better than our mid-dynasty spurs this season.

You still have the best 3 man core in the NBA (arguably) and a great system with a commitment to defense.

Some of you are really pathetic fans by the way, have some faith in your team for crissakes.

Mavs/Suns weren't good enough to win it all anyways.

See: Boston 2008. Yeah, homecourt sure didn't help them in the first three rounds or the finals.

As for the Spurs, if they don't make any other moves I seem them as a 4-6th seed next season.

07-11-2008, 06:28 PM
One thing is for sure: A Spurs' homecourt advantage in the West could very well determine whether or not we have a 2-0 series lead against a soft but much more talented L.A.

I'm pretty sure Pop knows this. I see us really trying to get that # 1 spot, especially with better leverage than last season to do so with the young guys we've picked up (mason and mahinmi). If we can get one more young guy like hayes or delfino or azubuke, we'd be in better shape to go for the # 1 spot without having to worry about health and injury.

Ronaldo McDonald
07-11-2008, 06:30 PM
Realistically, I see us at number 2.

New Orleans is going to be tough again next year, I don't see the Lakers being as good as they were this past season but still top 4. A team on the rise would be Utah and Houston assuming T-Mac and Yao are healthy and that is a big IF. The Mavs will look to compete as well and Kidd may actually figure out what the hell he is doing. I still see the Spurs as being in the Top 4 though.

The Spurs will finish in the top 8 AND make the playoffs. I'd bet someone's life on it.
