Ian's legs are way to skinny.... i thought he put on more weight than that.... thin base.

He really has to bulk up a bit if he wants to even be able to defend 4s

Mr. Body
07-14-2008, 11:09 PM
The Spurs need to wake up or else this will be a pretty disappointing start to summer league 2008 :depressed

You need to realize the 'big four' are not very talented. There's not a single stud on the team, just some guys who may someday be rotation players.

ROFL @ not taking Donte Greene for George Hill

BWAHA.

Anyone with a brain at this point could see. Greene would of made things A LOT easier for these Tim Duncan Spurs.

Aggie Hoopsfan
07-14-2008, 11:10 PM
I hope this is all nerves and not playing in a system.

This is the first SL game for the Spurs. It's the fourth for Memphis. It's going to be okay.

Mr. Body
07-14-2008, 11:10 PM
Looks like TD will be the only big worth a shit and TP will be the only PG worth a shit on this team next season.

I'm pretty sure Ginobili will be the only SG worth a shit on the team, too. Seriously, this team will be worse than last year's.

Spurtacus

Finally! Hill took it to the basket and drew a foul.

Mahinmi is about to kick someone's head off when he grabs a board. :lol

Hill is sneaky productive. Obviously a bad shooting night, but can understand because of the nerves. Dude still is the 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder.

I like him. Plus, D looks pretty good.

Hmmm, Tolliver. 6'9", 240 pounds. Ditch Bonner, sign this kid :hat

I think he's actually 6'8, but he's very "Spur-like" in personality (Roger Powell is too.) Both very good guys. Tolliver's rep is that he's a little soft and backs away from contact. The Cavs really liked him in training camp last year and he was one of their last cuts.

Agreed, I didn't see anyone in that group that could do much better than what we had on the floor last year around the big 3 (4 with Bowen). That isn't very promising...

I thought about that, but in fairness I'll give the new kid a chance to prove what he can do with some minutes before I label him not worth a shit. He did prove last season that he CAN be productive.

Hill doesn't look anywhere near as NBA-ready as Chalmers has in Summer League. You can blame it on first game jitters, but Chalmers didn't have them. At this point, you would have to say that Hill has some catching up to do, to be at the level of Chalmers. So unless you believe that he has a lot more upside than Chalmers, the pick is looking pretty weak.

The same things could be said about the comparison to CDR. It's not only the numbers. He just looks a lot more NBA-ready.

I hope Hill lives up to the Spurs' hopes. But to me it still looks like a guy who has to develop to become as good as some of the other guys already are.

Plenty are calling Mahinmi a starter later in the year, calling him the savior. Freaking MB writes posts about how he's as good as any lottery pick. Hill is carrying expectations of being at least as good as CDR or Chalmers, not to mention Arthur and Donte Greene, who we could have had instead. Kinda weird. If he's stroking the three like that, he won't be anywhere near the inside to battle for contact anyway.

And I think it'd be easy for them to say 'keep shooting like you're shooting, but get your nose in there and knock someone's head off for the rebound or we'll cut you.'

I just like what I see out of him, especially as a Bonner replacement. He's looked the best tonight after Gist, Hill, and Ian.

Hill looks pretty damn good. It's not hard to see what the Spurs saw in him. He set up 2 or 3 guys early for 3s with great looks that they didn't knock down. Has shown the ability to get to the basket. Gist looks like he could have a NBA career if he can bring this effort consistently. Hairston needs some work, or perhaps just needs a couple more games. Mahinmi had a variety of nice moves tonight offensively. Tolliver put some points on the board.

kid looks good, but his shot is on too. Let's see him when his shot is off.

I watched him a couple of times in college. Even when he's not scoring, he's still playing D like a mofo. You'll get that hustle on the glass, in rotation, and on the weak side with the shot blocking every night.

When he's hitting, the points are a bonus.

one game means nothing
and mem has played 3 games against other people before tonight
spurs played no one

I can't argue the fact that one game doesn't prove anything. Anybody can have an off night. But if it has anything to do with the fact that it is the first game, it would tend to underscore a difference between the players. Both Chalmers and CDR came out in their first games looking like they knew what they were about.

Hey, the guy is a Spur now, so I'm pulling for him to step up and be great. And no matter what happens, I wouldn't consider picking him a mistake, if not for some of the other players who were available. I think they would have given the Spurs more help this year, when they appear to need it.
