Stan VanGundy vs Pop

Two coaches that are in their first All Star games.

Interesting.

Has this even happened before?

Deserved. Well done Pop.

I can't wait. Pop will bench the whole Western squad for not playing defense and the Eastern team will win by default.

Pop coaching all star game = no play time for TD

TD - The ASG coaches usually listen to the team coaches about PT in the game. He probably would have told D'Antoni to play time 20 mins max, anyway.

Congrats Pop. This is his nightmare :lol

I didn't understand during the broadcast why Bill Land and Sean Elliott think that Pop gets to pick all the reserves. Don't they know all the head coaches vote?

Aggie Hoopsfan
02-04-2005, 01:53 AM
I think they're confusing it with the fact if someone pulls out hurt (say, Kobe) after the reserves are picked, the HC gets to pick the replacement.

I don't think that's true either. I think the commissioner picks in that case.

The 30 head coaches will vote for the remaining members of the All-Star teams in their respective conferences, and their selections will be announced on Tuesday, February 8. Coaches must vote for seven players in order of preference but are not allowed to vote for players from their team. The selections must include two guards, two forwards and a center. Two other players are chosen regardless of position. Also, if any player cannot participate in the All-Star Game, NBA Commissioner David Stern will select a replacement after the coaches select reserves.

that pretty much seals any fate against GInobili or Parker.

You know neither is gonna get picked.

Its the Spurs, come on, Rodney never got respect, and neither will they.

I think that rule has changed in the last couple of years Kori.

TPark, are you trying to be funny? Stern wants to put teams in Europe, he's probably chomping at the bit to have guys like Tony and Manu on the world's "biggest stage".

What I quoted was from the NBA's press release today. It's the current rule.

would love to see it.

But, ill believe it, when I see it.

Call it scepticism from a Spurs fan whos lived through years of zero respect.

I hope it happens.

But the run and Gun Suns might take the show, who knows, well see tuesday.

This one is another consequence of the Great Victory in Phoenix If San Antonio lost the Coach were going to be DŽantony

I can see Pop's preparation for the big event now.

"Okay guys games at three o'clock this Sunday. Try to show up on time. If I'm not there start without me."

The PHX loss @MEM was just as important, if not more so.

Has a coach ever gotten a technical during an All-Star game?

If Phoenix loss that game and won with San Antonio The Suns will be 37-11 too, but San Antonio with 37-11

And if Phoenix beat NYK, will be the First Place at 6th Fev

The Win at Phoenix weights like 2

Uh, we knew that. Actually, when SA beat Seattle like a drum, and PHO lost that night, it was known that a win in LA, and Pop is going All Starring.

Pop's not going to make it to the game. Pop's used to living things nice and quietly down in SA with the media paying very little attention to him. But once he starts having to deal with all of the reporters it's just a matter of time before someone asks him one too many stupid questions and he kills them with his bare hands. Either that or all the flash photography is going to spook him and he's going to go off like King Kong.
