Hill must develop a mid range game

Bruno
07-19-2008, 06:33 PM
Between refs whistling everything and player not used to play together, SL games are damn horrible to watch.
D-League games are a thing of beauty comparing to that.

xellos88330
07-19-2008, 06:34 PM
Hill, I think, is hesitating to shoot. I think he is focusing more on getting shots for his team than himself. Several times he was eyeballing the basket and looked to be going into his shot, but then passed it up.

kobyz
07-19-2008, 06:34 PM
who is the better defender right now Hill or Parker?

jayc23

hes got a mid range game.. hes just not used to using it as a point guard

xellos88330
07-19-2008, 06:35 PM
who is the better defender right now Hill or Parker?

Kinda hard to say. Parker is in the NBA and Hill isn't quite in it yet. Maybe after a season in the NBA you could get a relevant answer from me :P

Bluejay26
07-19-2008, 06:36 PM
Tolliver has really improved his shooting since I saw him play in college. Hes developed a nice outside touch, although he did rush a couple in the first half of this game. Hes always been a great hustler for rebounds, charges, and blocked shots if called upon. I look for him to make an opening day roster....what do the rest fo you think about Tolliver?

ChumpDumper
07-19-2008, 06:37 PM

kobyz

hes got a mid range game.. hes just not used to using it as a point guard

so he need to start, all the summer league he is or shooting 3 or go all the way to the basket

jayc23
07-19-2008, 06:37 PM
parker i think has the quickness edge on defense.. hill has the wingspan edge and its really an advantage on passing lanes

timvp
07-19-2008, 06:38 PM
Between refs whistling everything and player not used to play together, SL games are damn horrible to watch.
D-League games are a thing of beauty comparing to that. This game is especially bad since they are going up against a bunch of D-Leaguers who weren't good enough to latch on to other summer league teams. A couple of the games have been pretty decent to watch. D-League games are cleaner but it is also a lower talent level ... so the trade off makes it about equal in my eyes.

who is the better defender right now Hill or Parker?

Parker is a really good defender when he tries. Hill has a chance to be a good defender but probably should wait to see him go against actual NBA players before making the comparison.

jayc23
07-19-2008, 06:38 PM
I agree with you that he needs to tear drop or pull a mid range jumper.. his strength is his deceptive first step.. he loses his advantage taking it all the way to the rim

ChumpDumper
07-19-2008, 06:40 PM

http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101539

I'm sure he has a camp invite. If we don't sign any other big men aside from Thomas, he has a slight chance of making the team.

I look for him to make an opening day roster....what do the rest fo you think about Tolliver? He has a chance to make it in the NBA but he'll need to become a very good shooter. The rest of his game isn't good enough to survive unless he's can shoot ~38-40% on three-pointers. Even then, his upside is that of a eighth or ninth man.

jayc23
07-19-2008, 06:42 PM
The only person that can truly beat George Hill is himself.. obviously besides upper echelon NBA players but.. Hill is a lake of talent but he handicaps himself with thinking too much sometimes... he needs to get NBA mental toughness, and he needs to play with instinct.. which he does.. but playing a new position.. he is slowly but surely.. playing the game more and thinking less.

he's still not sure when to shoot. but in the league, you always shoot the wide open shot. he'll learn.

also, as he learns the tear drop, he should consider using the glass. it makes it a little easier.

One bad habit Hill will have to get rid of is passing with one hand all the time. On the NBA level, the players are quick enough that they will jump it and he won't be able to pull it back. You can use it sometimes but Hill goes with the one-handed pass about 75% of the time.

It's funny because he averaged over 4 assists a game this season.

Maybe he's just being told to score.Looks more like a guy who is desperate to make the NBA and is trying too hard to make an impression.

I wonder if he says that and means the Spurs are going to just let him go, or if they won't actively pursue him unless every other option runs dry.

It was pretty unequivocal that he said they are no longer interested in Horry, no idea if he's already going elsewhere or just retiring.

Pretty decent game. Mahinmi had a really good stretch followed by a horrible stretch. Hill's energy wasn't there (no crashing the boards or using his speed offensively) but he played decently smart for most of the game. Considering the competition, Hill honestly should have played better. Hairston looks pretty comfortable ... now he just has to start making more of an impact.

Gist not being out there to cause havoc and have Mahinmi's back made the game closer than it otherwise would have been.

Hill played great defense but his offense was damn horrible. He needs to adapt at the PG spot, the professional level and re-gain his confidence.

Mahinmi was so frustrated to watch. He is talented and skilled but he didn't even try to play today. He is usually a players with some fire but show none today and in some previous games. I really wonder what's wrong with him. Something behind the scene should have happened because I just can't understand how he can show so little effort on the court.

Toliver can shoot and that's all.

Hairston has had a decent game, as a rotation player for a SL team.

Green is a good SL player but I don't consider him as an interesting NBA prospect.

Well, that's the Spurs big men... Rasho, Nazr, and now Mahinmi...

All have head up the ass syndrome...

Now it looks like it's translating to point guards.. Now the Spurs have another point guard to join vaughn in thinking that their job is to get the ball to midcourt and watch...

All of the Spurs young blood have a long way to go to prepare for this season... lets just hope they have the bball IQ to pick up the pace

Even being a friend of George's I'm kind of pissed at him.. i really fucking hate it when he plays 75% tilt... I know what hes capable of , ive seen it.. and when he plays with out passion and doesn't shoot the ball when hes wide open or take the first step and take an open mid ranger.. The NBA will quickly bitch slap him into fully utilizing his tools and talents..

George hill in attack mode ='s gtfo of the way... I know hes learning point... but he has to attack even as a PG to create openings and scoring opportunities.. if he plays catch on the point all they get is weak entry passes and perimeter shots because atleast on summer team.. besides for a hairston going to the rim here and there.. NOBODY is slashing

Yeah RMR has been a disaster so far for him. Last game he grabbed only one rebound. This game he suddenly just stopped trying and starting hacking. Maybe Bud going off on him and the day off will wake him up. As it stands, he's way more likely to be playing with the Toros again than to be in the Spurs rotation.

With Ian kind of struggling (but showing small flashes), KT up in the air still, we could of definitely used the insurance of Tiago being on the roster.

Gist didn't play at all; they rested him. So he will get two days off since they don't play on Sunday. I'm guessing since he looked real tired after playing 5 days in a row and has showen enough to deserve the rest. Cuz Hariston played his 6th straight game; probably has not proved himself to deserve the rest.
