Manu is a top 5 player down the stretch in games when healthy. Problem is I don't think he will ever remain healthy again. I understand his country means more to him than anything, but as a Spurs fan the team means more to me than Manu's nationalism. Hence, Trade Manu!!!!!

Sounds like Delfino is actually hurting the team...shocker.
I can't remember, but did he have a big role in 04 when Argentina won it all? Seems his play is very, very sporadic and if he's on he can really help u win, but if he's off...he'll do everything to help ur team lose.

He's baaaaaaaaack. Although the Argentinian team should have taken a lesson from CIA Pop and not played him so much. Have other teams wondering if he's still seriously injured, etc.

Considering he is out of shape and recovering from his ankle injury, this was a great game from Ginobili. Somewhere, a mallard is in torment. ------> Most of the Argentina NT is not in good shape, Oberto, Ginobili, Delfino, Kamerichs for example, Argentina played really bad and even with that awfull team play the match ended by a 2 point difference so ... i think this wasnt that bad for the Argentina NT considering that the same happened before the Athens OG.

Curious... how many losses and you are out of the Olympics or don't qualify?
They're already in and qualified. It was an exhibition game.
They're in a group of six countries (along with Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Australia and Croatia) and they have to finish in the top four to go into the knockout rounds.

Well isnt that a block in the European game, if it hits the rim first?, or is it a rebound.
Its one of the most ridiculous rules ive seen, if anyone in Europe could actually jump they would outlaw that rule.

ROFLMAO at the hateful retard trolling this thread.
I TIVOed the game and I've just finished watching it. So now I'm ripping timpv's style Game Thoughts©:
Spain is probably the worst possible matchup for Argentina. They have won 14 of the last 15 times both teams played each other. With that in mind, it should be noted that the game was used as a scrimmage by both coaches, until the fourth quarter, when Manu in one side and defense in the other got Argentina back in the game. Spain came out flying and took a 15 point lead in the second quarter, helped in no part by some awful refereeing which got half of the already shorthanded Argentinian roster in early foul trouble. Overall it was a deserved victory for Spain, even with the home biased refs.
The Spaniards are one of the strong candidates for the gold, because they have a very good roster with flexibility and depth, which allows them to run or go to the paint and to play different kinds of zone in defense. They have a good mix of experience and youth, and many players that are proven in the FIBA stage. For Argentina the game left a good taste overall, specially considering that 3 players were missing, that Manu and Delfino played their first official games since the training camp started, and that our back-up point guard is still playing on one leg. The offense is starting to flow, not in 2002-2004 level, but there were glimpses of that ball movement. The defense is what needs to be worked on, specially the zone rotations, the pic n roll switches when playing man to man, and the box outs.
- Manu Ginobili is back. Not at 100%, because he took it easy, probably advised by the coaching staff. But late in the game he went crazy and almost makes Argentina comeback from 15 points down all by himself. He's still rusty, but he tried some penetrations, which shows that he is really confident, specially because this is his first game after coming back from the ankle injury. He has said that his objective is not to be in perfect shape right now, but to build momentum and get the best of his game when the Olympics start. His three point shooting was on target. On defense, he wasn't very active, but he wasn't getting lit either. He made a decent job on Rudy and Navarro.
- Luis Scola got into foul trouble early and never found the rhythm in offense. Spain has the player that I've seen play the best defense on Scola, Felipe Reyes. Not a great talent in offense, but a really hard-nosed, no nonsense defender, who gets most of his points from offensive rebounds. Reyes has defended Scola very well when they played against each other in the Spanish League and in previous Argentina vs Spain matchups.
- With Scola in foul trouble and Oberto out, the best Argentina big was *gasp* Roman Gonzalez. He was really aggresive taking it to the rim, posting Marc Gasol, who is taller, but weaker. When Spain went big (both Gasol brothers on the floor), he struggled in the boards, but he moved the ball well, and was aggressive.
- The best Argentinian player in the 4th quarter was Manu, but Andres Nocioni kept Argentina in the game the other three quarters. He had to play PF for large parts of the game because of the shortage of big men, and he did a really good job. He was a key part of the fourth quarter comeback with his defense on Garbajosa. In the end, he fouled out, but most of his fouls were very questionable calls. This was played as a friendly match probably by everyone on the floor, except for Chapu, he was diving for loose balls, fouling to avoid fast breaks and doing all those little things needed to win.
- Carlos Delfino had his ups and downs. He showed both of his faces today. When he was in the good side, he has hitting shots, penetrating and playing solid defense. In his bad moments, he took ill-advised three pointers, made some dumb turnovers and fouls and missed defensive assigments. Hopefully he gets into game rhythm soon, now that he has finally solved his contract situation.
- Pablo Prigioni showed that he is really important (for good and bad) to the Argentine cause if we are going to challenge for a medal. With Pepe Sanchez gone, Prigioni is now one of the floor leaders of this team. He was moving the ball well, avoiding the Spanish traps and half court pressure, and taking open shots. This last point is important, because some rivals will surely left him open by design, so it's important that he stops hesitating and takes that open shot with confidence. However, his defense was awful, he got torched by both Calderon and Raul Lopez. So far in this tour, he got torched by the Mexico, Poland and Spain point guards. Only against Uruguay his defense seemed good, and that's because the Uruguayans have a pass-first point guard and take a lot of shots in the paint. Many people talk about Pepe being missed to run the offense, but what worries me the most is the defensive side. Back in 2004, Pepe did a great job on Allen Iverson and Stephon Marbury. If Prigioni keeps playing defense this way he would get abused not only by Chris Paul or Jason Kidd, but also by almost any point guard in the Olympics. One of the reasons of Argentina's success, was the ability to switch between man-to-man and different zones. If Prigioni is getting blown by every point guard when playing 1 on 1, we're fucked.
- Paolo Quinteros had a solid, if uneventful game. With Manu and Delfino coming back, it was obvious that his minutes were going down. He showed his soft touch in the offensive end, but had some problems in defense. Hopefully he is ready for his role in limited minutes. That is, the Brent Barry/Michael Finley role: enter the game, help the offense flow and hit open shots.
- Juan Gutierrez was too passive on both ends of the floor. His only 2 points came from free throws, he had two field goals attempts in his 14 minutes of playing time. He had 2 boards, 2 assists and 4 fouls. With Scola in foul trouble, he should've contributed more.
- Antonio Porta is a liability at this point, but it should be considered that he is facing an extra difficult task. He came back from a torn ACL and started trainning before finishing rehab, because he didn't want to miss the Olympic roster. He's the only natural point guard in the roster to back-up Prigioni. So far in the games he has played, he has shown several problems to handle the defensive pressure and to stay with his man at the other end. He needs to be honest with himself and pick up his game of quit if he's not going to be ready come August.
- Fabricio Oberto didn't play because he had a bruised thigh in a previous game and the coaching staff didn't want to risk any further injury. Leo Gutierrez has a small strain. I don't have a clue why Kammerichs didn't play.
Cheers.

A preview of every Ducks post during the Olympics:
Manu makes a shot
A) Why is he playing in these stupid games? He's going to get hurt and ruin the Spurs season! He's selfish and doesn't care about the team. :bang:bang:depressed:depressed
B) Great, he does that now. Couldn't do it against Vujacic when it mattered.
:rolleyes:rolleyes:rolleyes:lol:lol
Manu misses a shot.
A) Just like the Lakers series.
:downspin::downspin:
B) I told you he sucks. We should trade him while we can get anything for him and let Tony shoot more.
:bang:bang:flag::flag:
There, now that we got that out of the way, you can just put him on ignore and miss nothing.
