Some of the future matchups look interesting, including Notre Dame v. Texas.

If we get past Georgia, I see Penn State maybe only standing in our way... hopefully everyone will hate those dog-bone stickers as much as I do.

i actually caught this. sorta interesting. even if i wasn't an A&M fan i'd still love their helmet...classic. though, i think they will have a tough time advancing here on out.

...btw, that Aggie with his guitar was interesting.

Going against Alabama today. Vote for Ags. I'll probably vote for Texas so that we can set up an A&M-UT showdown...

Why are some n00b teams in those brackets? Oregon's helmet has no tradition nor does South Florida...

That's beside the point right now... apparently, Bama fans have some kind of program that is bombing ESPN with votes

We need the rest of the SEC to destroy them. Look at these threads and do whatever you can for the love of god:

Must have used it for Texas in the Texas/Michigan matchup.

I concur b/c Michigan should have destroyed Texas.

Texas shouldn't have made it past Notre Dame either.

We haven't won a national championship since 1939... and USC claims that one from us...

Hell. There were 40000 votes over a day and a half. Somehow, there were 7000 votes in a 20 minute period, almost all of which were for Texas. Michigan went from a 6% lead with 30000 votes in, to losing by 8%. Michigan went from a 2000 vote lead, to a 1000 vote deficit in a matter of minutes.

Not surprised that Texas fans are cheaters? And that was a complete hosing. I'm very shocked that A&M has gotten this far, although it appears that we're using 'Bama's plan against them which makes it a little cheesier of a victory.

If we meet Texas in the final, I prefer one of 2 scenarios: votes are tallied straight up or a two-headed vote-bomb beast destroys ESPN's servers.

what is so great about Texas AM's helmets? How the hell did Texas beat Michigan? Michigan has the best helmets IMO

even if i wasn't an A&M fan i would love their uniforms/helmets. they are pure class/tradition. but...everyone has their own opinion. cool to see A&M make it this far though...

RonMexico

A&M has nice and traditional uniforms. Alabama's number + stripe is unique and traditional as well, so it's a good matchup.

Anything involving Texas = bandwagon fans of Longhorns.

I'm not knocking A&M, they have nice helmets- but they just aren't top 4 in college football. I am an Ohio State fan, but I would say Michigan has the best and most recognizable helmets in college football. I mean there are a ton of 'classic' helmets like, Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and USC. I just think Michigan should have won that, and that says alot coming from a tOSU fan

1) michigan does have the most recognizable helmet
2) A&M's is at least top 8, imo
3) SC's helmet is great!

...t.u. only beat michigan b/c of some computer robot voting, same thing with 'bama over A&M. i'm not saying 'bama wouldn't have won anyway...i don't know. but the votes over the last hour or two was something extraordinary.

How does everyone always think ND's helmets are so classic?

because of the tradition that goes into them- painting them each week with actual gold in the paint is pretty cool

It's worthless to try and explain anything logically to CaptMike. He seems to think that T. Boone is going to buy his school a title in anything other than wrestling.

ND wasn't the 1st team to have all gold helmets. 3 B12 teams did before they did.

Do they still have them now? That's called a "tradition," Michael.

Which Big 12 teams had it? I'm sure it wasn't called the Big 12 back then either.

MajorMike

Tradition? They didn't start doing the gold flake thing until the 70s.

Tradition? They didn't start doing the gold flake thing until the 70s.

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/1Aind.htm

"The shamrock helmet logo was introduced in 1959 by head coach Joe Kuharich; it was used through the 1962 season and replaced with white numerals the following year. Ara Parseghian brought back plain gold helmets in 1964 and the team has continued to use those ever since, which make this the longest-running unchanged helmet design among the NCAA Division I-A colleges (Alabama has occasionally used white helmets during this period)."

So they had the all-gold, then they went to small helmet designs and went back to all-gold. They currently have the "longest-running unchanged helmet design." Not that it's traditional or anything. It can't be nearly as traditional as wannabe-Texas burnt orange in "action" letters against an all-white background.

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/

So apparently, Baylor has never used an all-gold and Iowa State and Colorado used them briefly in the 60s and 70s. However, no documentation exists that "3 Big 12 schools used the all-gold before Notre Dame." In fact, I would guess that Iowa State and Colorado were copycats.

RonMexico

Everyone thinks it is classic. In fact, when you look at the sheer number of schools that have utilized the all-gold design, I think it points to how classic it is.

As does the fact that they've used it unchanged since 1964.

and how long has navy used their gold helmets for anyway?

they look different from notre dames

Well it took darn near a week for someone to figure out that the oh so traditional and one of the best helmets that was posted was actually Navy's, not NDs.

RonMexico

You posted Navy's? Crap, whatever hosting site you used for the photo was blocked at work, so I just got a huge "x" after your post... I assumed it was some kind of pic of Brady Quinn looking dumb and not a subterfuge.
