The "Birdman" is flying back to his old coop.

Chris Andersen, who played for the Nuggets from 2001 to '04, is leaving the Hornets to return to Denver, according to several newspaper reports.

Sources told the newspaper that Andersen will sign a one-year deal worth $998,000.

Andersen returned to the Hornets last season after sitting out more than two years for violating the NBA's drug policy.

He averaged 5.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks during a little more than four seasons in the NBA before becoming the first player thrown out for drugs since Stanley Roberts in 1999.

Known as Birdman for his high-flying dunks, Andersen was a favorite of Hornets and Nuggets fans.

He is best known for his performance in the NBA's dunk contest in 2005, when he needed eight tries to finish his first dunk.

He played in just five games last season after his reinstatement, averaging 1.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. In 258 career NBA games, he has averaged 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds.
