It's a bit of a "read between the lines" deal, but it looks like Dirk was at least considering leaving Dallas one way or another before his contract was up.

"More Dirk quotes: 'I really want to honor my contract with the Mavericks till 2011. We want the title. What I hear from Dallas these days, sounds great. Mark Cuban is working on getting a real good team together.'

“What I hear from our owner Mark Cuban out of Dallas hear right now – sounds good. He is working to get finally (/eventually) a good team.” He also believes that Rick Carlisle will bring some progress.
“By now I am convinced that I want to fulfill my contract (three more years until 2011) in Dallas”

It's not like he can just decide to leave in the middle of a contract. Does he have an ETO or player option in his current deal?

I don't think so, but he does have a player option for the '10/'11 season.

Umm... I don't think that bringing Diop, signing Gerald green and signing again JJ barea would make the mavericks a better team. However, they got rid of Avery Johnson , which in my personal opinion didn't turn out to be a great coach. The Mavs need better role players, a good perimeter defender and a good post up guy.

Getting your trophy FedEx'd to your house after an embarrasing choke job to an 8 seed is not a worthy MVP.
