Now, we just need them to avoid the annual August double-digit losing streak/complete collapse.

I'm not sure this recent 5 game losing streak was THAT bad of a thing. You listen to management talk, and this team may have been convincing themselves that they were in the race. They need to be sellers at the deadline (or at the very least, NOT BUYERS). If that losing streak helps put them in that place, then all is not lost.

But another August/September where the team has a 20 game stretch where they only win 3 or 4 times would be disastrous to any of the good that has been done this year.

It would be a great continuation if we could complete the sweep tonight of the Yankees in the Bronx.

We finally got smart and demoted Buress. It's about time. He gave up way to many runs in each of his outings.

Why is Buress still on this team? Everytime the guy pitches he gives up a crap load of runs. He needs to be sent down....

Yeah man there is no way that we catch TB or Bos in the East. But as long as we show legitimate progress then I'm happy. For the last couple of years we have just been everyones doormat. We still are, but not to the extent we were a couple of years ago.

Yeah I hope to play spoiler now so hopefully we can beat the cubbies again today. We lead them for the season 6-3.

Miggy was good in the first half and since then has just been ok. He has his ups and downs.

:lol People over at the Sun are complaining because Trem's took him out in the 8th. I see it as a win/win situation. You get Sherill's confidence boosted AND you take out Water's when he has just one hit the best team in baseball. He haulted Garrett Anderson's, and Tori Hunter's hitting streaks last night. That would had been disatrous for that rookie had Trem's kept him in to pitch the 9th and he would had end up getting hit hard. All the stuff he did before that wouldn't had mattered at all. He was already at 105 pitches.

That was actually Waters' first 8 inning outing of the season...at any level.

i actually didn't think he was THAT bad. he caught a couple of bad defensive breaks early in the game, but battled after that - then just ran out of gas at the end.

his minor league numbers point to him not even sticking in the bigs, but it's not like we have many other options ready at this point. Erbe/Arrieta/Tillman are all still at least one year away.

So Liz is pretty much done for the year?

So Liz is pretty much done for the year?

I think it'd be best to leave Liz down until September. He got his taste of some big league success (and fair share of failure as well), now let him work out the kinks in the minors. Ultimately, I think his future is probably in the pen.

Next year's rotation:

Guthrie
FA? (rumor has it the team will make a strong push for Burnett)
Olson
Cabrera
Albers?

Not a great rotation, but still plenty of room to grow with Olson and Cabrera (although we're nearing 'put up or shut up' time with DCab).

Birds will also get Troy Patton back from injury. Remember that he was viewed as the gem of the Tejada deal and was the favorite to win the #5 starter gig heading into spring training.
