I'm shocked that with all of the free agent names that have been bounced around here the last few days that no one has mentioned the great Geese Ausbie. The man once scored 186 points in a three game high school tournament, was the nation's 3rd leading scorer in college, and was great at throwing buckets full of confetti on unsuspecting audience members at GlobeTrotter games. The man has made more shots off his hip than most people could even imagine making in the boring, traditional way.
The man is a scorer, a proven winner (Have you ever looked at the Globetrotters' won/loss record?), a veteran leader, and the type of team player that Pop would covet. He can play four positions on the floor and is a gifted passer. Another plus is I'm fairly certain he's not under contract with any Euro team. Since he's five years younger than Dikembe Mutombo, I'm convinced the man can still bring it.
The only drawback is that I'm not 100% sure he's still alive. Of course, I worried about that about Mike Finley a couple of times last year, and I've noticed he's negotiating a new contract so I figure it's all good.
Now that the NBA has fully mined the Euro talent, I think the next logical step will be to start scouting the nursing homes, because there is some serious talent just wasting away out there doing things like playing 'bingo'. I feel like the Spurs need to start going after proven talent and not let guys like Geese slip through their fingers. Go get him Pop before the Lakers FO reads this thread and signs him to a multi-year deal.
I'm fairly certain Curly Neal and Meadowlark Lemon may be available as well.
