Oden will help a very young and rising Portland team and I smell a big fall out in Denver this year....You can flip Spurs and Mavs it will be close. Going to be a tight year again but Spurs will lose ground....

Doesn't really matter what place we end up in regular season.

2 keys

(1) Our rookies get enough experience and gell together for the playoff run.
(2) Our big 3 has had enough rest to stay healthy on the playoff run.

Reality though, it is going to be *very* difficult. Our best chance now is that if any of our new acquisitions explodes into an all-star calibre player. It's a leap, but that's just how you get to the next level. Fingers crossed that one or two of these guys (Mason, Hill, Mahinmi, Gist, Tolliver) take it to the next level.

was this thread started before the rockets picked up ron artest? cos if it was....the rockets will be better then us, we didnt get to play utah in the PO last season, but during the regular season, timmy was being torched by utahs bigs(and their bigs suck)..anyone thinking our new rookies are gonna turn this around are out of their minds...so much for HCA.....just like last season, if we dont get HCA we dont win a championship its that simple, and it doesnt matter what place we fall in after the number 1 slot.....

What people fail to realize is that even though some of us have Spurs higher or lower that the difference between first and 5 could be 4-5 games. It is way too early to tell and a lot of these could be interchanged.

How can we as fans honstly say our team will not drop when everyone around us has done something to improve?

If every team got better every year, everything would be the same every year, and the same teams would make the playoffs in the same order etc. etc.

Not every team gets better, and rarely do things go as expected. That meltdown in Chicago? Chicago even getting into the playoffs 3 seasons ago? The Pistons, of all teams, becoming EC power after the Teal era? San Anton being above average, falling for a year, and coming back to win 4 of the last 9 championships. New Orleans. Miami (pre Shaq).
There are so many examples of seemingly random things happening, and certain improvements never materializing.

The Spurs' stability works well for them. Even acquiring Kurt was a big improvement, only hampered by how he was used.

Wow, you really think this current Spurs team as it stands can be the #1 seed?

I do. I don't think it's likely but it is possible. It's not going to be likely because I believe that the Spurs won't push hard enough to get the number one seed. We went to the conference finals last year with a hurt Manu. You really don't think a healthy Manu + Roger Mason + Mahnimi + Rookies + second year for Udoka and Thomas > our previous supporting cast? Tell me how that's not better than the guys we got rid of With the Rockets trade, I believe that there are now 4 true championship contenders in the West, Rockets, Spurs, Lakers and Hornets. However the Rockets have the most that can go wrong, with Mcgrady, Yao and Artest.

I would put
1. Lakers
2. Spurs
3. Hornets
4. Jazz
5. Rockets
6. Suns
7. Mavericks
8. Trail Blazers

As pointed out earlier, you can't have 3 teams from the same division (Spurs, Rockets, Hornets) in the top 4 spots - you have to take one of them out. The top 4 spots are reserved for the 3 division winners and the team with the next highest winning percentage.

didnt we start the season 17-2 before tim manu and parker got hurt? spurs should have won over 65 games last year. suns were healthy all year and what was their excuse? remind me who the suns signed this year. no one and shaq just turned 80 years old i think. yes the spurs are alot better. spurs are #1 hands down.

Manufan909

Idk, I'm hoping for 3rd next year. Even if the Hornets lose Pargo, they have gotten better, same with the Fakers and getting Bynum back. The Spurs on the other hand, have to introduce Mason, Ian, Pargo/Hill, Gist, and Tolliver to the system. Even if it's just three that I mentioned, that's alot of new blood. Anyway we could use Hill as a SG, and have him replace Finley if we got Pargo as well? In the long run that might not make sense, so I guess Hill would be a combo 1/2 guard. He could be PG if he wasn't on the floor with Tony or Pargo.

As a Spurs fan you really shouldn't be going on about age

spurs are not 1st seed hands down, there will be better teams who have better regular season records due to their youth. spurs won't go all out in the regular season even though they need to. if they want to go to the finals
