Serge Ibaka, the No. 24 overall pick in this year's draft, has signed a three-year contract with a professional team in Spain.

Ibaka's contract with Ricoh Manresa has NBA buyout clauses at the end of each season that could allow him to join Oklahoma City's franchise before the deal expires.

OKC may become the first team to lose the championship before they even play one NBA game.

Since he is still only 18 this could be a good move .....or not
He could become a beast and come over in a couple years... or he could develop "Tiago Splitter Syndrome" and we never see him.

No big deal. This was probably known by OKC when they drafted him. He is very young and very athletic. OKC had the extra picks and they could get great value for this one.

This was known the day before the draft when his agent sent a memo to all 30 teams saying Ibaka would not come over right away and not to draft him in the first round. OKC didn't care though.

Is there a difference in being drafted in the first round and second when you are going to play over seas? How is this different than Splitter?

As of right now it is no different than Splitter. A player drafted in the first round is restricted to the first round rookie scale. This becomes problematic for the team drafting him, especially if the current player's european team can offer a big amount of money.
