This show was guaranteed to be "boring" to you. The NFL was taking ZERO chances with anything controversial.

What I don't get is what idiots keep coming up with these halftimes? Don't they understand their demographic?

At the Orange Bowl you had Ashley gay ass Simpson trying to prove she wasn't a lip syncher by cracking notes left and right. I'm sure a lot of teenie boppers tuned in for that one.

Tonight you had Paul, I guess they were going after the Viagra/Cialis crowd?

Seriously, the demographic for big sporting events is about 95% males age 18-35. Quit rolling out halftime shows that come in under or twice as old as that demographic, for the love of everything sports fan.

How many people bitched that they watched the Super Bowl with their families last year?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you.

I'd rather listen to Paul McCartney than watch Britney Spears, Nelly, Aerosmith, Justin Timberlake, and Creed sing 45 second soudbytes from a re-mixed version of "It's gettin hot in here".

A little on the boring side? Maybe. But at least having ADD wasn't a viewing requirement this year.

And this is new? Ditka has been shilling Levitra on sundays all season. There are a lot of 40-60 year old football fans, too. Advertisers aren't dumb enough to spend the money on superbowl commercial time if there wasn't great evidence that their target demographic would be watching.

For every Cialis mention, there were plenty of monkey commercials, Cedric the Entertainer for Bud Light, and trailers for The Longest Yard remake. With 90 gajillion people watching, the 18-35 male isn't the only demographic to pander to.

Man who cares? Just as I don't know whether to be offended more by Janet Jackson's right tit being almost entirely exposed in a Super Bowl halftime show or that a right tit was almost entirely exposed and it belonged to Janet Jackson, I frankly could give a damn less. Unless there is 15 minutes of a lesbian orgy hottub scene being shown at halftime I dont care.

The Super Bowl makes all performers lip sync, including the National Anthem. The reason is that with the accoustics, the performers can not keep time because of the delay. The last time a halftime performer refused to lip sync was the Backstreet Boys, and they were horrible because of the feedback and they were totally off key.

Paul was great. Live and Let Die with the fireworks was the best song. He should have done some earlier songs that rocked more than the Baby you can drive my Car song which was not one of the best songs anyway.

The Beatles are NOT overrated and if they are than all these hip-hoppers are grotesquely overrated.
The majority of them can't even play an instrument.

Does a musician need to resort to stage theatrics and humping and grinding women to make them more entertaining?
So I guess the concert business would go under if bands performed their music instead of a "show"?

If you can't enjoy the music with your eyes closed then you are not listening but 'watching" the music.

McBragg, you don't have to flip out. I'm sure your parents would have said, "Who are those 4 boys dancing around like that all crazy! They should get a hair cut! Whippersnappers!"

Oh, and I was watching the halftime show. If I wanted to just listen to it I would have just turned the radio on.
Just because you think the Beatles were God's gift to music doesn't mean they were, or that everyone agrees with you. They were the cutting edge "Backstreet Boys" of their day. They did many of the same social/moral envelope pushing things that young musicians do today. I don't go for glitz and glamour. I just thought that other than those cool "ramp projection TVs" there wasn't that much to the halftime show.

I don't even think that a live musical performance is always the best act to have play. I wonder if there could be something more like the olympic games. There is more than just listening to music at the halftime show. It should be as much a visual production as audio, if not more so.

The question about who has influenced young men, pussy should outscore the Beatles by about 1 billion to 1. Pussy has influenced more musicians than the Beatles have and was also a major driving force behind their song writing and success.

If you can even recall the "Up With People" halftime days (or some of the other schlock that used to be Super Bowl halftime entertainment), you'd realize that McCartney is among the very best acts the NFL has come up with.

I'm still struggling with the concept of the Beatles being overrated. I respect the opinion, but vehemently disagree with it (if that makes any sense). I suspect that if you talked to most modern "musicians," you'd find a large amount of respect/reverence for the Beatles. Too many current bands have Beatles covers in their shows or Beatles influences in their music for that not to be true.

I guess if you're arguing that the Beatles being the most influential force in modern music history does not mean that they are the greatest musicians who ever lived, as some seem to think, then yeah, they are overrated. (that's a constipated way to express that thought, sorry).

Overrated? sure, but then there isnt' a group or singer out there that isn't overrated by SOMEBODY.

Agreed...kinda like me thinking Phish and DMB are overrated and you jizzing in your pants everytime you hear em.... :smokin

But I don't knock Dylan or Springsteen....Dylan I know is great..he's not overrated..I just don't particularly like everything he's done.

Springsteen...well I understand why people love him...but again I don't particularly like his stuff save Born To Run...that's a great song.

Oh and don't knock dylan or bruce, they're fucking awesome.

They have absolutely ZERO appeal to me. They are most certainly not fucking awesome. :lol

Ditto! I just can't get into that east coast style of music.

Dylan is only popular because the children of the 60s were too stoned to realize they couldn't understand wtf he was saying. :spin

Bruce is overrated.

You want to know how to tell if you like an overrated musician?

If you think it's cool to like them.

Ditto again.

I can't stand Dylan or Springsteen. When I was in college, my friend was Springsteen's assistant and we had so many opportunities to see him free and I always turned it down.

Overrated? -- I can see it. I absolutely disagree, but I can see the argument.

But "the Beatles suck?" WTF? (I'm assuming the smiley face indicates you're joking, but just in case -- my panties are definitely in a wad now . . . .) To go back to my analogy: saying the Beatles suck is like saying Tim Duncan sucks. You may not like the game, but you can't deny the substance.

The Super Bowl goes beyond the standard sports demographic. The commercials are an event for some people. Some people get into the halftime show. And oh yeah, there's the game too. Since most of the people at the game are there on a company dime they may not necessarily be interested in what an eighteen year old would like to see.

McCartney was good and I prefer the single artist rather than the "all stars" from different genres of music jammin' on stage.

Spare me the Jay Z, Slash, Earth Wind and Fire, Dolly Parton and Jewel singing "I'm just a Love Machine".

I enjoyed the show but I'm also a big Beatles fan.

I can see not liking Dylan... but I defy anyone to listen to "Girl from the North Country" and tell me they don't like that song.

I defy it!!

I liked the album Toys in the Attic, plus a few other songs from their early days. Everything they have done over the past 15-20 years has absolutely sucked.

But, that's just my very humble opinion.

I think they are hugely overrated. Dream On is an incredible song...one of the best..but the rest of their stuff was garbage.

Their version of Come Together is total crap.
