View Full Version : Who would you like to see on the Spurs in the future?

Instead of making crazy trade ideas this year for All-Stars, just name a few people whom you would like to see on the Spurs in the near future (2010 maybe). Name some people and list the reasons why you would want them on the Spurs. This is the thread where you can get whacky (baseline), if you can back it up or justify how they would get here, put them on the list:

I would like to see Danny Granger on the Spurs. He is a very solid, young SF that can defend and score and I know Pop likes him a lot as well. He has a team option for next year and would be a restricted free agent in 2010 if they do not extend him before hand.

You did not list your reasons.

Oden: Fits in age-wise
James: So ducks will quit complaining about Manu
Howard: Maybe Superman can help overcome our repeat cryptonite
Wade: We need someone who can get a call against Dallas

I agree Granger would be a perfect addition, but it looks like Indiana will be building around him.

I like Bosh. I'm pretty sure he's an unrestricted free agent in 2010 and he could be to Duncan what Duncan was to Robinson.

I agree, but I am pretty sure that he will want to test free agency. So teams will make him some nice offers. He has upped his value and I think that he will want to test the free agency because of it. IMO he is better than Deng and Iggy but I do not think he has the name power to command their money.

Granger would be a great Spur(IIRC the Spurs actually tried to move up to draft him) but the Pacers will probably give him borderline franchise money which would be overvaluing him.

I'd like to see Thabo on the Spurs. He's a little more Christie than Bowen (although more balls than Christie) in that he's a capable playmaker and a stellar defender.

With Gist in Italy, Dominic Mcguire would be a good pickup if they could use a TE. He's a very versatile player at 6'9"(especially defensively),has a good BBIQ, and would benefit greatly playing in a stuctured system.

Of the big stars the only one I see as being a possibility is Bosh. He's a Texas kid who grew up idolizing Dave and Tim so maybe the thought of being what Tim was to Dave could intrigue him. I'm not counting on it but it's a possibility.

There's plenty of other players, but those were the first that came to mind.

James - cause he's young & he's in my opinion the best player in the NBA!

Well one things for sure, we will know a lot more about the position the team will be in for 2010 when the Manu Ginobili extension gets taken care of.

Though virtual impossibilities and very likely not available to the Spurs, I would love Dwight Howard or LeBron. They are my two favorite non-Spurs (well, outside Stephen Jackson).

Danny Granger or Chris Bosh both would fit us well and both are the most realistic in terms of options.

Bosh would seem to make sense but his performance during the pre-Olympics games have left me unimpressed. He looks like he could use about another 20-25 lbs of muscle to handle skilled bigs from teams like Greece. I'm sure playing along side Tim would help cover up alot of his faults.

Ricky Rubio for sheer passing and trick plays. The guys is amazing. Been watching vids on him. You guys have his rights so the Spurs front office did well here. Now the trick is getting him over here and hoping he does not do another Tiago Splitter.

This guy is the point guard of the future. He's only 17 years old and hasn't even stopped growing yet. He's all upside. He's 6'4" already and still has to fill out. Wondering how big this guy will become. Plays with a lot of flash. Sorta reminds me of another player who plays for Phoenix.

By 2010 he'll be 18-19, hopefully this gets by Stern's min age requirements.

Yeah Rubio is really smooth. It's like effortless watching him make those passes and cut through traffic. Every now and then a player comes along and just amazes you. That's Rubio. His play and his passing is a lot like Pistol Pete's.

You can not judge international play quite the same way. I mean, it is not great watching Bosh struggle, but Tim struggled the same way if not more at first glance and we all know how he turned out! Bosh is not on Tim's level, but he has a lot of nice tools for a big.

I vote yes for Bosh....He can be Duncan's sidekick just like Duncan in Robinson's time. I like Mahinmi but I doubt he can live a big man's expectation. If this fails then I would like to see Splitter Slut on our team. Danny Granger as well if we can lure him out of Indiana which is almost impossible. How bout Lebron he seems like us based on his comments on Spurs iLast year Finals and in general. Money?? Let Peter Holt be poor and fans got excited....

Al Thornton...

Al Thornton is going to be a beast. He is my candidate for Most Improved Player next year, I really think he will win it. I am not sure, but I know that the Clips are pretty cheap, so a team might be able to steal him away when he tests free agency.

in 2010 I would like to see us go after Wade, and T-mac, I think Joe Johnson has an opt out that year not sure but he would be nice.

I like Bosh but he is no duncan and we really should pair duncan with great wing players because we will have Ian and Tiago in the fold to play 4-5.

Hey Shaq will be a free agent then too. Lets give his ass a couple mill to give us a quarter or 2 in the middle if he can be had cheap!

I still hope we can resign Manu at a discount.

BWS-1994

By 2010, TD will be near the end of his carreer. Enter Mahinmi and probably Splitters.

I like to add Bosh in the mix but I wonder if there would be enough room for Mahinmi and Splitters to play.

TP would be fine. I do hope we resign Manu. But he too would be in the wrong side of 30 like TD when his current contract ends.

So aside from CB4, a younger SG will be nice. Hopefully, D-Wade. A continuation of the combo guards that we've had (Barry before, Mason now).
