I can't seem to figure out how to do something...

I have a .mp4 of a broadcast of a concert, how can I take one giant video file and make smaller videos of the songs I want. What software do I need (preferably free), and is it a bitch to do? Thanks!

If this is a one time thing, then download Ulead Video Studio Pro off download.com and you get like a 15 day or something free trial without any water marks or other types of tricks. It is a real good video editor and you can just about do anything with it. Play around for 10 minutes with it and you'll get the hang of it. I made a top notch music video with it and I don't have any music video experience at all.

cool thanks, I'll check that out

Viva I'm checking that one out as well

I think I should be able to figure it out. I downloaded a complete Jonas Brothers concert and was to edit out 2 of their not so good songs

As far as I know, .mp4 is just a container not an actual video file, so you're going to need to find something to demux the video stream from the .mp4 first, and then edit the video stream from there. You'll have to find out what it's encoded in first, I would guess some kind of MPEG-4 compression (most likely XviD or AVC).

Check megui. It's a GUI on top of a bunch of command-line transcoding tools. It's GPL'ed, so it's free. I use it primarily to rip DVD to H.264, but it also supports splitting. Just look up some megui tutorials.

that translates to: "sdakljgbfsijfgbwe;jyrhkjsdnakjfpyhwerjkbnasdkjnkmc n" me, sounds pretty complicated!

tpmgenc....thats a program i used to demux the video and audio from each other, than you can encode the video to better quality or what ever, and mux it again....
you just gotto find the best program that suites ur needs, as there are plenty of programs out there that can encode it to another format...

vcdhelp.com check that site out, has some tools and tutorials etc
