Wow. He made Guess Who, the Oceans movies, and Head of State watchable. Hell I even enjoyed him in Mr. 3000. I usually shrug off celebrity deaths, but this one is a downer.

R.I.P.

Last week when he was in the hospital, there were false reports that he had died. But then his publicists came and out and said that he was doing much better and would fully recover. :( Sad that he didn't make it but it looks like sarcoidosis isn't curable. I had never heard of it.

Well he had sarcoidosis; my aunt has that also and 5 years ago she had a severe pneumonia that lasted 8 months including 2 months hospitalized and 2 surgeries.

Very sad to lose such a young man like that. RIP

sarcoidosis is an auto-immune disease, treated with drugs to suppress/destroy the immune system, leaving him defenseless and unable to fight infections.

Rack up another death for medical science. The drugs worked great, to bad the patient died.

Agreed!!!!
I too have an autoimmune disease. Systemic Lupus (SEL) and I guarantee you that without the Immunosuppressant/chemo/steroids, I wouldn't be alive right now. There is a frickin reason they need to suppress your immune system. If they don't suppress your Immune system then it stays in a hyper vigilant state and thinks everything in your body is a foreign invader and launches an attack on it. By suppression, you can keep all those little immune soldiers from misidentifying your organs as bad guys. Yes we do have to be careful to get a lot of rest, stay away from large crowds during flu season and babies who have recently received any live vaccine. But other than that it just common sense to wash our hands a lot.
The invention of these and many other disease modifying drugs have saved many more lives than they have taken.
Please, please, please think before you make such ignorant statements. I may not change the fact that you make them but at least then you'll know why people get pissed at you.

Hey Shoogs, GFY

"But because he had it, his immune system was compromised. He had an infection ... He was on a new medication that suppresses the immune system, and that's where the pneumonia came from."

Bernie was also infected with a second strain of pneumonia while was in ICU
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20218110,00.html

The medication worked, the patient died from the medication.

Bernie Mac was funny. And IIRC his show was still going, not canceled when he died at like 51.
This death hit me harder than most even though I wasn't a huge fan.
