They used to pull that crap at the holidays where I worked. Only people with kids got time off. Then everyone had to adjust their schedule to accomodate day care or school hours. No one could take vacation in summer because everyone with kids got first choice!
Luckily I was fortunate enough to quit work once I had kids. Last year I was offered a $60/hr contract job----that I had no problem turning down because I know I can't be a reliable employee and have kids at home.

I'm getting $8.75 an hour right now sitting on my ass at a cotton warehouse in Lubbock while they load my trailer. (We haul just about anything when we have an empty trailer...can't make any money hauling sailboat fuel).
