I'm not even anxious for season to start yet. Probably b/c we had another off-season of nothingness.

My line of thought as well. We all had our FA checklists going into the offseason (realistic, logical, or nowhere near either of the two depending on who's viewpoint you're looking from) and I can bet that more than 90% of the board couldn't have seen things unfolding exactly as they did. A good chunk of that does not fall on ownership because it's hard to legally drop a sac over people's heads, stuff them in the trunk of an automobile, drive them to an undisclosed location, and then make them sign a contract....at least in this country.
The draft is another story....I don't keep up with much college sports, but the one thing I've come to realize over the years is that the draft, more times than not, is a bit of a crapshoot: one never knows what one is definitely going to get and their are too many factors to predict how MOST college players will fair in the pros. You just have to hope whomever your team picks fits into the team's system.
Although I personally was more in favor of bringing Brent back over Finley, I think the team will be more improved going into next season. The defense has gotten a bit stronger, the team has gotten younger, and we still haven't gotten until the trade deadline yet....one never knows what teams may be willing to deal for at that point.
I'm not saying the team is perfect or that we have closed up all of the holes (we still have to find a way to defend long athletic SF's and PF's which seem to be popping up all over the Western Conference), but with the same system still in place along with the same Big 3 their is more reason, IMO, for optimism than major concern going into the season. Just my 2 cents.

This is definitely one of the more depressing offseasons in the past 10 years for Spurs fans.
This coming season is gonna be brutal.

I know this is totally pointless and in the wrong thread, but I was messing around last night at our draft and we could have built such an amazing team if we drafted smarter. Now i know the players now wouldn't have developed as good as they did, but hey look at this possible lineup: LOL
Tony Parker
Manu
Rashard Lewis
Carlos Boozer
Tim Duncan
I know i know, but damn that looks solid. LOL

ive got a cousin who has been a california highway cop for 22 yrs. when he comes here to visit he always tells us. never move to LA, it the worst city he has ever had to work in. he says the crime is 3 times as bad as it is here. when we have one or two killings per week he laughs. he says they have those kind of killings on a per hour bases. so you go ahead and live in a city where walking down the streets might just be your last walk. ill stick with this quiet one professional team city.........its safer and we're champions

I live in LA and it's great, your cousin probably works by downtown LA by the Staples Center, that's why, but move off the 101N and it's amazing. Nothing beats seeing a Ferrari everyday downshifting right by you. :p:

I don't get that - maybe the draft if you wanted CDR, Chalmers or some other player, but who did we really honestly have a shot at that made sense in our system? I'm not saying we knocked it out in FA, but I don't think there were really that many realistic opportunities. Are we better than last year? Time will tell, but on paper probably not. I think as a Spurs fan it's business as usual since everbody counts us out as normal. I don't remember the article, but I do like the point that the Spurs usually don't build their team to match up against improving teams - they create their own matchup problems. I still believe that, but this season will definitely put that theory to test.

I am actually quite happy about this off-season. It seems that the FO did attempt (somewhat successfuly) to aquire players that could potentially fit the system, and fill in the teams weaknesses. Spurs have become a bit younger, a bit more athletic, and they brought in guys that will hopefully bring in the scoring punch outside the big 3 that the Spurs were lacking last season. The Spurs beat some pretty good teams last year, even with their weaknesses. A small improvement could be all it takes to get them over the hump this year. I mean they had huge leads over the Lakers, but lost them due to the lack of offensive options. They clearly had their sights on players who can provide that, so because of that, I am satisfied.

Trojans Baby. Trojans.
I'm so glad I don't live in a city where basketball off season consists of rooting for those two teams.
