How would the Celtics or Spurs do against the Olympic team? Does going through an 82 game season plus playoffs or in the Spurs case, going through a decade of championship calibre play make you a team that would be able to beat the Olympic team of all-stars?

Or, would the talent of the Olympic team be overwhelming?

Not even close ......08 is the best Olympic team ever assembled......better than 92 by far......forget the close 10pt game against australia without there best player and forget Kobe shooting 20%......this team is GOD like and nothing ever in the history of the world compares.

Nobody thinks that great coaching plus the familiarity of playing together for so long could allow a less talented team to win with a great team concept?

It definitely matters, but this olympic team is just way too talented. That and they are already playing pretty damn well together.

I think the Spurs or Celtics would atleast have a chance.

Argentina with a healthy Ginobili could win against the USA. Too bad he got hurt so early.

Celtics aren't that impressive of a champion. Team USA would beat them soundly. LeBron on his own almost took them out.

Spain and USA are scoring points like it's 1979 Spurs vs. Nuggets. USA team defense sucks. Spurs or Celtics would beat this team with solid team play which beats individual talent more often than not.

To a man, there is not one single player on Spain that is as good as the guy they are guarding on the USA.

Also, they are playing without their star point guard and are hanging in close through 3 quarters.

Team play beats individual talent.

The Spurs or Celtics would kill Spain and would beat the USA. If we want to really dominate the Olympics, send an NBA championship team and add only one or two players in case the NBA champ loses a player to a foreign team.

Exactly, Kobe dominated the spurs in wcf by himself, let alone the dream team or the "redeem team" w/ full of all-stars! :lol

The redeem team was not that impressive in the Gold Medal Game. It reminded me of kids in the playground stacking their team with all the best players and then still having to struggle to win the game.

Talent-wise USA should have won by 50.....didn't happen.

The Spurs or Celtics would win...

because they are teams.... this olympic squad is just a bunch of individual talent... no matter what they say....

It took this much talent to have enough to beat the olympic teams, they needed too many options..

I didn't like this team one bit.... because it wasn't a team... even if they won it should've been easier...

Finally someone who "gets it". I agree with you 100%. Spain made it close with a bunch of guys who aren't even close in talent. Can you imagine what a more talented team could do to this USA team? Defensively, the USA team has nothing. A good NBA team would tear them apart.

USA Team would destroy the Celtics/Spurs/Lakers. All of the Team USA starters require a double-team, all the NBA teams have max 3 players you have to doubleteam. You can't double-team 5 guys. EDIT: Except Kidd, don't need to double him. Still 4 guys that require double and triple teams.

Some of the starters can hang with Team USA starters but how about the scrubs?

Celtics
Eddie House, Sam Cassell, Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine

Or maybe the Spurs?
Manu, Matt Bonner, Michael Finley, Robert Horry, DerMarr Johnson, Mighty Mouse

vs
DWade, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Michael Redd, Chris Bosh, Boozer

It wouldn't be even close, there's just way too much talent and they've been constructed pretty well this year. Let's say the USA starters get a little bit of a lead. When the 2nd group comes in, they'll demolish the other bench by like 30 points.

You also gotta remember, this USA team has to adapt to International rules, if they were playing with NBA rules, USA would have beat Spain by 100 points.

I don't think this current team is better than the 1992 Dream Team, but you have to stop criticizing Kobe's shooting and (in other posts) mentioning how Jordan would dominate.

Michael Jordan's 1992 Olympic stats
14.9 ppg
2.4 rpg
4.75 apg
45.1% FG
21.1% 3PT
68.4% FT

Kobe's 2008 Olympic stats
15.0 ppg
2.75 rpg
2.5 apg
46.2% FG
32.1% 3PT
58.3% FT

Oh, and the US beat Australia by 31 points with their "best player." Who cares about a pre-Olympic exhibition scrimmage?

I still don't see it. USA team defense is horrible. A good game plan by a solid NBA team with good coaching would score at-will against the "redeem team".

Team USA defense was EXCELLENT prior to tonight's game and would be excellent by NBA standards.

But
1) International play allows for moving screens (they don't call it)
2) International play allows for much more physicality

USA players aren't used to this bumping and grinding. Watching the Argentina game, Kobe and I think LeBron were thrown to the ground coming off a screen and no foul was called. Play by NBA rules and the entire Argentina team would have fouled out. In the Spain game, Kobe and LeBron got into early foul trouble as well.

On offense, nobody could have stopped the USA team if it was NBA rules. Team USA's best asset is its driving into the lane (Kobe, LeBron, DWade, CP3, DWill) ...but with FIBA rules, there is no rule against camping in the lane. In the NBA, no one player can stop Kobe, LeBron, CP3, DWill, but in FIBA play, you just send your bigs to sit in the lane and you've stopped them.

So the USA team has to win using their 2nd best skill...jumpshooting.

I still think that Spurs/Celtics would won the game, just because tey are longer together.

Just look at the names on the USA team, and they can't even win Spain by at least 15 points. Just look at the roster of this two teams and you will see that USA team is better on all positions, but still they can't destroy them. Ok, USA won them the 1st game by a lot, but Spanish players said that they didn't play that game 100%, cause that win didn't count.
Sure Pau and Marc are great players, but Howard, Bosh and even Boozer can play better than them.
Then you've got Navarro, but he's not as good as Wade, Bryant or D-Will.
Even Redd who plays minor minutes should kick Rudy Fernandezs ass.

I think that both Celtics and Spurs are better than Spain. So the team USA would not ''DEMOLISHE'' them.

And look how good the 2nd team of Spain team played against them. Fernandez, Rodriguez, Lopez, Mumbru, Garbajosa (he sucks now that he's injured), M.Gasol. Plus Calderon didn't play the game.
And you say that the bench of Spurs/ Celtics can't play against this guys!
We all saw that USA've got problems with this players, what problems would they've just have with the guys that know their game.

Why are you bringing stats into this?!
it's time for blatant hate, and not making sense!
you need to get these stats out of here, none of these guys will like them, unless they follow their argument.
