Spurs and Celtics are the only teams that have stayed true to their history except for a couple minor tweaks. Lakers tried but completely altered the color of yellow and design of the jersey. Spurs got my vote.

that may be...

my favorite color is gray...

I for one, am glad that the Spurs ended up with black, silver, and white as the colors.... because they couldn't have had any better ones in my opinion...

atleast on my end ... it isn't a biased opinion...

Mavs current uniforms are kind of bland, actually.

I hated them at first, but the P Diddy jerseys have grown on me.

My all-time favorite Mav uni is the green roadies from the Aguirre/Blackman days:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2109/2370645440_4139b72648.jpg

I prefer the old cowboy-hat unis to the current ones. Originally the nameplate on the home unis were smaller:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2120/2369788209_fffb9694e0.jpg

At some point they enlarged the Mavericks nameplate and it was a change for the worse IMO:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1418/660007555_a5db7ea28e_o.jpg

Least fave Mav uni? The blue roadies from the nineties. I associate it with those days when they were fucking horrible:

Are those getting phased out? I hardly remember the Mavs wearing them last year. I was the same way, hated them the first time I saw them, now I prefer them to their standard uniform.

Green has always been the Mavs best color, they ought to redo their current blue road jersey and make that one green.

SenorSpur

Some of those teams have good looking home unis and terrible road unis or vice versa. In the Spurs case, both home and road uniforms look wonderful. If the look and design of a uniform stays the same over the course of time, it WILL eventually become classic.

Thank God the Spurs went back to their traditional black and white colors and got away from that puke fuschia and turquoise. ugh!

They still have them but maybe you're right and they weren't as prevalent last year.

Couldn't agree more. They ought to get rid of that gray horse too and bring back the cowboy hat logo.

I have to be honest here. The last time the Lakers redesigned theirs nearly 10 years ago they came out horrible. What I don't like is the way it's shaped at the top front of the jersey between the shoulder straps. Looks pretty cheap.

As far as team colors go, I have this to say. Former Laker owner Jack Kent Cooke, who built the "Forum" for them to play in called the team colors Forum Blue and Gold. Well, Forum Blue is actually Regal Purple, and on just about every color broadcast I have seen, it looks dark blue. Yeah, back in the old days when I was a kid, we had a black and white set.

Also, back then, the only colors I saw the Lakers play in were their road dark uniforms. Home games weren't broadcast, and no cable TV existed. So, it was always fun to go to a game and see them in their gold jersies. Almost every other NBA team wore white at home, so our gold was kind of special. About 7 years back, LA switched to White for Sunday home games only. I like those a lot better than the gold, and wish they would use them all of the time at home.

I agree completely. Not just the Lakers, but a lot of other teams are going away from the A-shirt look and making their jerseys look more like a sleeveless T-shirt. I don't like it at all. The absolute worst right now is the University of Texas uniforms.

LMAO @ the Spurs being a nominee.

Double "LMAO" at them winning (what would you expect at SpursTalk).

The Spurs Jerseys are definately NOT cool....that "spur" is too cowboy-esque. And they always wrinkle up at the base of the neck when the players sweat.

Where's the Bulls? Jordan's jersey is the coolest of all time.

I think Utah, Denver and Toronto have have pretty cool jerseys. Orlando too.

I think the Knicks have a classic jersey, as well as the Sixers.

Among those choices, I might go with the Suns.

Lakers jerseys are awful...
That is funny about the LA jerseys looking blue on TV, because they're always clearly purple when you see them live.

I have seen the Lakers play on the road, and yeah, purple is quite obvious. Sometimes a hand-held cam shot at a time out will show the real purple color. Or just check out Laker gear at the local mall. Must be something in the color spectrum that makes them look blue when it translates to the boob tube. I don't have hi-def TV, maybe it's fixed on that.

the new Laker uni's are ass ugly, i wanna go back to out 90's look.
I knew I wasn't alone on this! However, as I say, the color scheme on the home Sunday whites is pretty nice.

I love our gold jerseys, it reminds me of shaq when he was a youngster.

On those alternate Spurs jerseys, it always pissed me off that the number was left aligned rather than centered.

Thats the way they were in the olden days my man :)

I personally like the Clipper's new roadies that are blue and have LOS ANGELES on the front in cursive.

Best Jerseys in the NBA
By: Preetom Bhattacharya

With several NBA teams set to unveil new uniforms for next season, HOOPSWORLD decided to make the foray into fashion by judging which teams have the best designs for their jerseys.

Although the extent of this particular writer's fashion acumen is the occasional viewing of Project Runway, it isn't hard to see how NBA jerseys have evolved in recent years with more prominent block lettering and basic trim. The days of the jersey variety provided by quirky eccentricities have ended, as we say goodbye to each team's unique take on what to emblazon upon their uniforms.

A quick trip down nostalgia lane, for better or worse, before moving on to the best of today's league. Remember those...

- Purple Phoenix Suns jerseys with the blazing basketball streaking across the chest?
- Pinstriped Chicago Bulls jerseys?
- Multi-colored Denver Nuggets jerseys with the skyline and Rocky Mountains?
- Detroit Pistons jerseys with the horsepower represented with exhaust pipes (and a horse)?
- Cartoon animals prominently displayed on the chest of the the mid-90s Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Toronto Raptors uniforms?

In any case, it's time to move on from the past and take a look at what teams are doing now. The best maintain sense of their own identity in their duds, never lost among the fray.

Keeping it Simple

There's something to be said about a classic look that never really changes. Four teams in particular have seemed to embrace that concept, the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs.

Quite literally the gold standard, the Lakers are the only team that doesn't wear white at home (except on Sundays), combining gold with the "forum blue" (aka purple) to create a truly iconic look. The team hasn't changed the overall look of the uniforms for good reason, except for changing the shape of the shoulder straps.

As the team with the most championships in the league, the Boston Celtics have kept as simple as they can when it comes to their jerseys. Some may say it's plain to have an austere "CELTICS" spread across the chest, but there certainly is something charming to the crisp and clean white and green, isn't there? The team has occasionally threw in a shamrock or introduced black here and there, but the old-school staple is still the winning formula.

Could one of the NBA's most fundamental players, Tim Duncan, play in a more fundamentally sound uniform? The Spurs have stuck to the unfussy black and silver combination for years and are one of the few teams still using the tank-top style rather than the broad-shouldered version most teams use now. The logo is simple but unique to the team and it's Texas roots and the team avoids making things busy.

The Portland Trail Blazers have basically maintained the same logo and jersey since their inception in the 1970s, and with good reason. The team's logo is one of the most unique in the league and has a great trivia behind it: the logo is a representation of two basketball teams lined up against each other, five-on-five in opposite colors (there's always red for the Blazers and the other five are either black, silver, or white for the other team). The team has kept the logo and maintained the "blaze" two-toned diagonal on the jersey since winning the championship in 1977.

A Refreshed Look

One of the nicer newer jerseys is the one the Cleveland Cavaliers introduced after drafting LeBron James in 2003. The updated look served as a bit of an homage to Cavs teams in the past, hearkening back to the squad's original wine and gold colors of the 70s while also maintaining a hint of blue to honor some of the success the team achieved in the 90s, when orange and blue were the primary colors.

Plus, anything is better than the "tiger stripe" black and light blue uniforms of the mid-90s.

Truly Retro

The NBA's "Hardwood Classic" nights are fan favorites for the opportunity to see jerseys from the teams' fashion history. By far the best retro jerseys, though, are those of the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors.

Before moving to a primary red color in the mid-70s, the Hawks briefly featured a weird green and blue combo in the early 70s. The blue road jerseys in particular, though, were a great look (the green? Not so much). You may recall the players' named being beneath their numbers .. and Pete Maravich simply having "PISTOL" written for his.

Widely considered the best NBA jersey ever, though, is the Golden State Warriors' "The City" uniforms. The team donned these in mid-to-late-60s and the look is still great for today's Bay Area franchise, with a cable car (housing the numbers) on the back and a bridge prominently displayed on the front. With "The City" on the front, the Warriors jersey itself screamed confidence, perfectly capturing the unique Bay Area flavor on the jersey. A bonus? Like many college teams, the original jersey did not include player names, making the uniform literally more about "the crest on the chest than the name on the back."

Disagree?... did we neglect your favorite jersey?.. drop a line in the comments section below and set us straight.

People complaining that the Celts are the only true original jerseys are dumbasses - they have done more tweaking and have more alt unis than just about anyone else right now. They have the yellow numbers and the black numbers and they have some fronts that say Boston and some that say Celtics, some that have the clover above the name on back and some that don't. Don't kid yourself the Celts add or change something all the time.

The Spurs are the simplest traditional ones out there. The only throwback was the silver jerseys and that was extremely limited. Even back in the day of the ugly ass fiesta colors logo the jerseys were still the same. Additionally, there is nothing more menacing than black - why else would so many teams make alternate unis with black on them? Purple, orange and green??? C'mon, seriously.

I like the PHX logo alot, but they change their unis so much its crazy.

Knicks?? You have GOT to be kidding me. If you think black and silver is boring but you love block orangey-red on blue??

The sixers keep changing uni styles as well.

If you want the all-time best unis 'gaudy style', here you go:

At least Blazers' unis actually have a decent background; and they have stayed the same many years as well.

I agree completely. Not just the Lakers, but a lot of other teams are going away from the A-shirt look and making their jerseys look more like a sleeveless T-shirt. I don't like it at all. The absolute worst right now is the University of Texas uniforms.
