View Full Version : What's Up With Luis Scola?

He started off the season over in Europe like he was going to be named MVP of the world. Lately, his production has fallen off pretty drastically. Is he injured? Were they playing easy teams in the beginning of the year?

He was averaging over 20 at one time and now he's at 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds on 52% from the field. Still nice numbers but not quite as good as they used to be.

Thanks for the help.

His defense dropped off, and Pop called his coach and had him benched. Then he threw the ball into the stands and pulled his jersey over his head and that was the last straw.

Bump.

Scola's numbers are a little up since I posted this. He also won some MVP award recently if my espanol is right.

Any insight? Anyone watch him play as of late?

I hope so. I'm still not sold on his defense or his game translating well to the NBA. Hopefully so.

HA, if he has a problem with defense, that will quickly be fixed in SA, garunteed.

Any guy like Scola with a good jumper and rebounds decently can play in the NBA.

02-26-2005, 01:56 PM
Well, if he played 35mpg like Duncan he'd average more like 20 and 9. His production seems pretty good for 29mpg. I remember Manu's European stats not being all that eye-popping either.

Eight rebounds is a galactic improvement for him. I really thought we had the next Mo Taylor on our hands when I saw his size, and then his rebounding*cough numbers at the time he was drafted.

02-26-2005, 02:37 PM
TAU coach brings him off the bench for energy and scoring. He's really good and he'll definitely hit the floor because the ball is his.

I saw him in the CSKA game earlier, before the FINAL 16 started. They are 1-0 so far in Euroleague Final 16. He gets into major foul trouble sometimes. If you look at his stats, it should reflect that.

How many do that in one of the top teams in the top european country league?

He is 15 and 7 for Euroleague regular season on 52% fg.

In spanish ACB league he ranks 5th in total ranking, 12th in ppg, 7th rpg, 13th bpg, 4th in recovered balls, 13th in 2pt fg%, quite an all around game.

Did you watch the KG interview? KG crying because he's losing, cus he hates his teammates poor effort...

You better realize that as of now, the wolves aren't even #8 you stupid fuck.

We'll see how often you come in this forum to talk trash when your teams is outside looking in at all the play-off teams.

...And you better hope that KG is a wolve next season, I wouldn't be surprised if he requested to be traded from that scrubby ass team that isn't even going to make the play offs with cassell, spree, wally, and oh yeah, maybe that KG guy should be helping.

I think Scola will bring some additional life to this team. With Malik gone now, it opens the door for Scola to be the first big off the bench.

The question with Scola is his defense and rebounding. He has worked long and hard with the Spurs staff doing what they ask of him and more.

I'm excited about the prospects of Scola. I would of preferred Malik o still be here at least in year one...but you cant always get what you really want.

He is in the Opposite side of Rasho

80% from the Field and 90% from FT line

a rebound is a rebound, but assists are actually recoreded differently. only assists in the direction of the basket counts. Example: if a center passes the ball back out to the guy on the perimeter and the guy makes the basket, it does not count as an assist. At least as i remember, anybody else knows this?

lmao, he looks retarded
I thought the same the first time I saw him. Well, maybe not retarded but definitely not one of the brightest minds in our NT. Some time later, when I heard him in an interview I was surprised to find out that he was actually pretty smart, maybe above average, even if his face said otherwise :lol. He seemed a very centered person and was doing a great analysis of his career and basketball in general.

About the stats, I don't know if there are any differences in the way rebs are recorded because I guess there has to be a rebound for every shot attempt. But assist are certainly recorded differently, the player receiving the pass must score immediately, almost without even dribbling. In general the NBA is much more prone to inflate stats than FIBA leagues, I believe it's a marketing thing.

Wolves009 your just upset because your team is struggling and they have no clue where they will be next year. They have guys that are out of their prime demanding new contracts while the spurs have their core locked down for six years with new role players waiting to get on the team. That is what happens when you have a good system with a humble superstar that leads by example.

For me, San aAntonio need some players who can beat the big games of the Opposite Team
May be Rasho can Stop and play more D with the Big Guys, but If someone Like Scola scores 20 points, the problem is for the other side
Duncan and Rasho can score 30-40 Points a game and let the PF-C in less than 30 points
A TD-Scola pair may canīt remain theys in less than 30, but both can score 40-50 points.
If the Big Guys won the paint, doesnīt matter if the Score is 40-30 or 50-40

If Olo played in the euroleague or whatever league Schoola plays in, he'd be the MVP!!!

Euroleague<<<<<NBA w/c means that a guy who puts up 30 and 10 over there is = 8 and 4 in the NBA

This little guy's nonsense doesn't usually warrant a reply, but here's an interesting fact many people don't know about: in the 1999 season, during the lockout, many NBA players signed short term contracts with European teams, and among them was also the much anticipated number one pick Olowokandi. What is interesting is he signed for excactly the team mentioned above, Kinder Bologna, where Rasho (the 17th pick in the same draft) was playing at time (and also Ginobili, a couple of years after Rasho left for the NBA). A much hyped addition soon turned fruitless when the coaches realized "Olo" was far from the player they imagined and he was to serve only as a back-up for Rasho. Much like Minnesota is probably feeling right now.

I donīt think so
One player can Score 30 Points and 10 boards in the Bobcats and 8 and 4 in the Spurs
Itīs a Minutes situation, Attempts situation and Defense situation.
If Tony Parker would be in the Bobcats he would be a player of more than 20 points by game, without any problem and Manu too
Kobe now havenīt Shaq in his Team but his efficiency is down, because he have doubles or triple mark in each play.
Scola will be the Tim Duncan backup, he can play aprox 15 minutes, the half of the minutes that plays in Spain
If S-Jax had followed in the Spurs, he wouldnīt have the numbers that it has in Indiana
In Europe the players plays less than 60 minutes of basketball a week, and in the NBA the Starters are playing more than 120
60 Minutes a week is the number of minutes that Scola can play max in the NBA in the next season, is aprox 15 min a game
But his 48 Minutes numbers will be about 20 and 6 Boards or 6 and 2 each game

When Manu was in The Kinder Bologna, his team had a list of Salaris around the 18 million dollars, a few less than the Bobcats have
