I've got the new Madden, Orange Box, Ninja Gaiden 2 and GTA 4 all chilling on ice, because inevitably when I fire up my 360 I just end up playing COD 4. So normally, I would buy it, but given how many other games I own but don't play I'm going to let my COD binge run it's course before I buy another.

Im absolutely getting this. I'm a huge fan of the first two iterations. And FWIW, the turn-based action system is entirely optional AFAIK. If you ever played the first two games, however, you would absolutely understand why it works so well for this thing. Having selective targeting to cripple specific body parts of the other character it's what makes this thing different from a FPS with a story. Goes without saying that the gore also makes this thing incredibly fun too...

fallout 1 was a bitch to beat because i tried to beat the game with my dog surviving... which is hard to do when in the late game a single shot could kill it.

so the combat is turned based? i thought it was real time first person shooting with rpg elements mixed in...

definitely up for this as long as it's not too rpg-ey

It's both. You can do turn based, or like oblivion.

If you are an Oblivion fan, you're gonna love it. If you're a Fallout fan, you're just gonna like it.
And no, you're not going to get me to tell you wether I've been playing it for the past two weeks or not. ;)

I'm buying my copy tomorrow. I'm gonna try to get the collector edition. Just make sure you set aside some time. The game world is pretty huge.

And you can fight both turn-based or not. But believe me, turn-based is done exceptionally well.

Got the G.O.T.Y. edition this week, been playing it non-stop. I've only played through Mothership Zeta, but I'm loving the new little tweaks they have added to this game.

do you need the 1st disc to play the expansions or can you just put the goty disc in the xbox and play all the expansions from there?

mardigan

The second disc for Xbox 360 and PC does not appear to have any restrictions placed on it. No code is required to import the add-ons and you don't need to be connected to Xbox Live. I was able to install the add-ons on multiple hard drives without a hitch, and saves carry over for anyone that has started the original Fallout 3 campaign. As far as I can tell, it's possible to buy one copy of the Game of the Year edition and simply trade the second disc around to friends that own Fallout 3 to let them install the add-ons for free.

Disc 1 would be where the game is... why would you not need it?

The 2nd one has the DLC in it... but they're add-ons, not stand alone games.

It makes no sense to be able to play it on the 2nd disc by itself.

BlackSwordsMan

you didn't need the halo 3 disc to play the 2nd odst disc, was wondering before I bought it on ebay

Got the GOTY edition and am playing through (3rd overall, 1st for this edition with all the DLC)

I'm thinking I'll wait to play all the expansion stuff once I've leveled out and beat the traditional game.

About how many playing hours will I get from all the DLC????????

IronMexican
12-04-2009, 06:52 PM
Each one gives you about 3-4 hours. I'd do Point Lookout last, since it is the hardest. MZ ot PL, take you're pick, really.

getting game of the year edition for christmass!

definitely worth it, enjoyed the DLC a lot. Gives more to the player in terms of stuff to do once you've beaten the game. It also varies nicely from Linear (operation anchorage) to sandbox (point lookout). Will stay on my hard drive for a looooooong time.

Next play-through I'm going to do all the DLC(possible) first.

Plenty of cool new weapons as well.

I can't touch FO3 unless I have shitloads of time. I get going in the wasteland and before i know it, 4-5 hours pass. I think a big reason why there's less quests/locations in FO3 compared with Oblivion is to force the player to really explore the wasteland to the fullest. I enjoy doing just that, I did in Oblivion and Morrowind too.

Is Fallout 3 better in HD on XBOX 360 or in HD on PS3? I had it for XBOX 360 but I beat the game and got all of the achievements. I'm tempted to get the Game of the Year edition for PS3 though.

Bethesda is the king of RPGs right now. They make them the most imaginative, deep, and open ended. Fuck every other RPG from this point on that doesn't let you steal every item in the item shop or murder any character in their sleep. Those other games are really good, Bethesda's shit on them.

Which other mainstream epic RPG developers are even trying to keep them alive? Bethesda deserves props for moving forward, not backward in the genre.

Example: ME2 was ME1 dumbed down, and ME1 already didn't have enough content and open endedness.

Did you ever hear of Arena or Daggerfall?

The only other game at the time that I can recall with that much of an open world was probably the Ultima series. You could probably stick Krondor in there but thats stretching it.

I just wish Bethesda would bring back the climbing skill like in Daggerfall. Climb up the wall of a building and break in through the balcony door. I used to love looting all the shops at night in that game. :lol

http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/fallout-new-vegas/1067697p1.html

Last week, Bethesda and Obsidian gave us a rough release date and the first teaser trailer for the next installment in the Fallout series. Today, the game's developers have emerged from the vault to provide a few details about New Vegas.

Next month's issue of PC Gamer kicked off the Fallout frenzy after a few lucky subscribers received their issues in the mail a bit early. In response to the early release date and the atomic bomb of speculation it created on the tubes, Project Director and Lead Designer Josh Sawyer and Senior Producer Jason Bergman took to Bethesda's Fallout forum. Below is a list of details gleaned from PC Gamer and the comments from Bergman and Sawyer on the forum:

* The game is set in the Mojave wastelands, and Vegas itself is largely intact.

* You don't play a vault dweller. Instead, you're a courier that's saved by a former vault dweller.

* Three factions are at war in the game: Caesar's Legion, the New California Republic, and New Vegas.

* In addition to karma, reputation is tracked in the game. All three factions will either see you as good or bad toward them individually.

* Dialogue will be handled a bit differently, with skills having a bigger effect on conversation choices. Said Sawyer: "Each skill-based dialogue option has two different texts, one for high skill (which will result in success) and one for low skill (which will result in failure)."

* There will be a hardcore mode where the character must drink water to stay alive, ammo has weight, and healing isn't instant. Said Sawyer: "A lot of the things in Hardcore mode are also things that I personally wanted to play the game with. I realize not everyone does, but it's the only way I play it."

* There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS.

* The Hoover Dam is in the game and supplies electricity to the city.

* Area 51 may or may not be in the game. Said Bergman: "We did not show it or confirm whether or not it's in there. I'm not saying it is or isn't, just that we haven't said either way."
