Im just looking for opinions on the design and layout of this site. If you saw it and were into the product would you make a purchase from us?

Is the Logo to bland, flashy, is the layout clean?

Is the site loading fast on your connection?

I thank you all in advance im working on this for a client.

thanks

Looks fine to me, only two things I don't like.

1. Flashy logo distracted me from reading the opening text
2. Total price doesn't display if you add an obscene number of items to the basket. I'm actually suprised it let me put 2x10^102 items into my basket.

Heath Ledger

do you think i should just shut off the flashing? i was able to put 1000 items in my cart without a hitch what webbrowser are you using/

I didn't like the flashing either, it was distracting. And this might just be me but I like the thumbnails a little bigger when it's pictures or art. They lose a little of their selling power if you can't really see the detail. I'd rather have less per page and bigger pictures.

What 228 said. Kill flashing, bigger thumbs.

Yeah, your latest products are like eighty items, limit it to a certain amount and then make the thumbnails bigger.

If that logo was an actual physical object I'd tell you to burn it.

Also, I don't know what I'd do with that center section above the latest products, but I'd change it somehow.

It's 100 times better, but I'd still have a professional logo made.

I wish I could come up with an analogy, but having a professional logo will make all the difference.

Heath Ledger

yeah the logo is only temporary i slapped it up there because before it just said "your site" out of the box for this cart and it is getting traffic already and even a few sales so i wanted something up there for the time being, if nobody on spurstalk comes forward with my offer ill bug my gf whos a graphic artist but too busy right now

If it was my website, I'd find use hoverboxes to magnify the image the mouse is currently over. See the link below for an example of what I mean:

It looks pretty easy to implement in your stylesheets, and the result looks very professional IMO.

Also, there's way too much text...

For example,

The Day The Earth
Stood Still Original 27x40
Single Sided Movie
Poster
$39.99

is too much info and takes valuable room from the thumbnail image.

css and stylesheets are not my thing, its a bit over my head but thats a cool little script

And the top logo should also be a link to the index page.

New logo tell me what you think its just a concept she is gonna make 4 different ones. To the right shes going to make a film reel scrolling with some images of some of the hotter poster titles that will be clickable to the product detail page

Personally, I like the layout; it's organized and the page loads quickly (don't be tempted to use Flash later on). The things that I don't like:

-- The logo. I know you're working on it, and I know designing logos usually takes time, but you should re-think it. Something more "polished" or "professional" (especially since it's a commercial site).

-- The Welcome to FlixMoviePosters paragraph seems out of place to me. It's using up valuable space, especially at the top, where you can place more thumbnails. I would recommend editing it, shortening it, and moving it somewhere less "in your face" (possibly into one of the side columns or next to the logo at the top). Basically, think of ad copy: short and to the point, and use the About Us page for a detailed description (at the moment it's kind of empty too).

Tell your girlfriend not to quit her day job.

Heath Ledger
08-23-2008, 07:45 PM
Thats pretty funny she gets paid thousands of dollars by firms to do stuff for them it was one concept she came up when she was dead tired at like 5 am.

Ill agree it wasn't her best work but she definitely should not quit her day job it pays lots of billls around here :)

I would add color I guess and a bigger banner.....

also I agree with borosai I think the welcome text is misplaced...

it just looks like you copied and pasted a poor font onto something that doesn't belong...

or atleast make like matching fonts for example the gray.. and make a little template for news or somethin :/

PM5K

You asked, I'm just telling it like it is.

I don't even care who or what the reason, it's not a good logo.

Do you think it is?

Do you think someone could make a logo considerably better than that?

Heath Ledger
08-24-2008, 01:59 PM
Of course someone could make a better one she can herself as well, you made the smartass comment about not to quit her dayjob.

Well it makes sense.

Next time don't have her making logos for you when she's too tired to do so, next time be a little more considerate, otherwise you wind up making her look like a shitty graphics designer.

If you mean me, that's the point. I have virtually no experience designing logos, yet I was able to make one that isn't much worse than the one made by Miss Professional...

I'm actually not trying to be an asshole, even if I come off that way.

For as little as 50.00 you can get someone to design a professional logo for you. This one, for example shows how the logo would look vertically, horizontally, etc:

http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/1333/74761213di2.png

This one shows some different variations. Some designers will also give you text and non text version logos:

http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/1279/96031879br4.png

If your girlfriend can do a professional logo, then that's great, if not get someone that can.

Whatever logo you use makes or breaks the professionalism of the site, at least in my opinion.

The good news is i get a 30 percent stake in all sales, just for the initial design and the advertising. He does all of the customer service, order fulfillment and adding new titles to the site, hes already selling $5-7k per month of these posters on my Amazon.

I understand i need a better logo, im just looking for general opionions of the layout of the site, cleanliness, load times etc. Im aware of the thumbnaiils getting cut off. Im having someone fix the tables for me and installing that script you mentioned where when you hover over an image you see a bigger image.

Thanks for the opinions. Or most of them. :downspin:

Whats the difference between the posters on that site and ebay one? Why do they cost so much? I'm not a movie poster collector so I really have no clue.

I have one like this rolled up that a friend who works for 99.5 Kiss gave me from his job.

http://www.moviepulp.be/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/the-dark-knight-poster-teaser-why-so-serious.jpg

And a small one that look like this.

Heath Ledger

okay the posters you see a lot cheaper most of the time on ebay are usually reprinted posters, they are scanned copies that lose detail from the originals printed on thinner/inferrior paper. All of the posters on this site are actual theatrical posters, and not a reprint, original theatrical posters tend to go up in value versus reprints, the avid collector can tell the difference mostly by the thickness of the poster paper and quality. There are big poster sellers like allposters.com and moviegoods.com however 95 percent of their posters are reprints.

Okay ive added the hover script but it does not work on the front page, if you do a search for a title or browse through the site via this link

http://www.flixmovieposters.com/movie-posters/cat_3.html when you hover over a thumbnail you will see the blown up version of that thumbnail.

Also added about us, privacy, policy links to the top of the home page, fixed the thumbnails so they are larger and not cutoff. Logo is next then i have to figure out how to get that hover script to work on the homepage as well.

Strangely a few orders have already come in with no advertising thanks to googlebase feeds.

Looks pretty good except that you may want to bring the hover image up a bit higher and/or add some blank space at the bottom. For example, the Peter Pan popup image from the page you posted is cut off when you hover over the thumbnail (I'm using Firefox 3)

Here's a screenshot of what I mean (@ 1280x1024)
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4715/sshotjw7.th.jpg (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4715/sshotjw7.jpg)

Hover images are great though, as I hate having to go to a new webpage just to view a graphic in better resolution.
