With the Pats and Colts hurting, is there really any team in the AFC that is heads above all the rest?

All teams seem fairly equal in this Conference.

I would agree...thus far. I think as the season moves on, the traditiional powers will be duking it out for the playoffs (Pats, Colts, Chargers, Jaguars, Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Seahawks) with possibly some new players to the party (Buffalo, Tennesee, Philly, Arizona).

During Manning's tenure, the Colts have been damn lucky with injuries during the regular season (don't talk to me about the postseason, or my girlfriend will stab you). Our luck was bound to change.

That said, I am still devastated about losing to Jacksonville, a team with a storied history of choking against the Colts.

At 1-2, the Colts aren't off to the start they would like — not even close. This news isn't going to help.

All-Pro safety Bob Sanders, already sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain, recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on one of his knees.

Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay explained the decision to the Indianapolis Star.

"The feeling was the high ankle sprain would take longer (to recover from) than the scope,'' Irsay told the Star. "I think they just cleaned out a few things (in the knee).''

It was not immediately clear on which knee the surgery was performed.

Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is in the first year of a five-year, $37.5 million contract that includes $20 million in guaranteed money.

"I knew when we did the contract that he's such a rare talent that you have to live a little bit with the possible injuries that come up,'' Irsay told the Star. "Bob is so combustible, so physical. He's so dynamic and such a rare individual.

"It's something you knew (was possible), but you know he might get on a lucky streak and go a year or two without having anything.''

I would agree that the Colts are having a rough time...mostly, I think it is due to so many injuries and having to make due.

Every team has its problems, but I think the Colts will overcome this.

They may not make the Super Bowl this year, but I don't think they'll be nearly this pitiful come the end of the season.

There are undefeated teams in the NFL, but I don't think there's any one team that's heads or tails above the others this year.

Pollack played well today...when he and Ugoh are back at full strength the line will look a lot better even if all the starters aren't in there. But when you look at the Colts running the ball this season they are going to the outside or relying on the stretch play way too much and that's all on a lack of confidence in the o line when trying to run between the tackles. It would be interesting to see the ratio of outside runs to runs up the middle by the Colts this season. I'd guess a 3:1 ratio in favor of outside runs.

Santi didn't really surprise me. He's got potential to be a good blocking and receiving combo TE like Dallas Clark.

It's going to be an interesting game, no doubt. Both teams NEED to win it to win it to keep their playoff hopes alive. SD needs it a little more so they'll play tough, but the thing about SD this year is their D isn't as good without a decent pass rush, and without Merriman their pass rush becomes a lot more average. It's almost exactly like what happened to the Colts last year when Dwight Freeney got put on IR. Even with Bob Sanders having a DPOY season, they couldn't stop anyone when it counted because Freeney wasn't playing. Same thing's going on in SD right now.

On the other hand after playing like shit for the first half of the season, the Colts seem to have turned it around starting with the game against the Titans. Even though they lost they felt like they should've won that game and they haven't lost since. I'm not counting out SD just yet but I'll take the Colts by a FG... and this time Vinatieri won't shank it.

Yeah, Melvin Bullitt and Tim Jennings are the defense MVPs so far this season with the Eraser and both of our starting CBs hurt. I have not been the biggest Jennings fan, in fact he was pretty fucking shitty last season, but he's made a lot of improvement in his coverage and tackling this season. Watch tape of last year's game against the Patriots and watch #23 fuck up all day long... it was bad. He's having a good year so far.

Bullitt is going to be starting next to Bob next season if he continues to play this way. If he doesn't earn the starting job then we'll have the best starting safety in the NFL and the best 2nd team safety... not a bad deal if you're a Colts fan. He's playing out of his mind right now, and if he can keep up that level of play so Bob can get more rest during games then I'm all for giving him a bigger work load. Could use a little work in run support but that's about the only hole in his game. And it's only his second year, this kid has a lot of upside and the Colts are dumb if they don't hold onto him.

Well if Bob Sanders doesn't play in this game you can expect the Colts defense to give up big plays to Tomlinson all day... Still like the Colts chances, last year when they played at Qualcomm they outgained the Chargers by over 200 yards and lost the game because special teams couldn't cover a fucking kickoff and punt and Adam Vinatieri got possessed by the ghost of Mike Vanderjagt.

I just got home (no NFL Network). It was a another gutsy, team win. This team scares me in that I expect big things now. These Colts seem to understand the importance of team blocking and tackling. Ironically, Manning is getting a lot of (deserved) credit, but this has been the best overall team effort for an entire season since at least 2005.

I heard them talking about Peyton for MVP after the game during that NFL Network roundtable and it's a pretty decent argument. Dude had offseason knee surgery, another knee surgery on top of that one that he kept hidden, hobbled around for all of September, struggled in October, and hasn't lost a game since the calendar rolled over to November. You think they'd lose to the Titans, Packers and Bears if they played them now? I mean, after 1-2 and 3-4, I thought the playoffs were a fucking longshot. And look where the Colts are now?

F Deion Sanders for saying the Colts would be one and done in the playoffs. I thing we can hang with anyone on the road, the only team that really scares the shit out of me is Pittsburgh, only because I don't think any team can win at Heinz field twice in the same season...at least not this season the way their D is playing.

Manning definitely has made his case for MVP here lately. If he can finish the season with a big performance and a win over Tennessee, he might lock it up. IMO the race will end up being between him, AP, and Ware.

Dungy passes Tom Landy for head coach with most consecutive playoff appearances. They were tied at 9 before the Colts clinched this year.

Also Peyton only needs 93 yards in the next game to crack 4,000 on the season. Hopefully Dungy has realized by now that tanking a meaningless game kills this team's momentum every time he does it and only sits out the guys that could use an extra week to get ready for the playoffs. I'd still play guys like Sanders and Addai a little bit to get them some more game time before the first playoff game. It worked wonders for Clark playing in that last regular season game before the Super Bowl run two years ago.

Manning entered the game needing 93 yards to hit 4,000, achieving it on a 55-yard touchdown play to Joseph Addai. The two-time league MVP left the game after the opening possession, finishing 7-of-7 for 95 yards with one TD and a perfect 158.3 rating. He has failed to hit 4,000 yards passing in only two of his 11 NFL seasons—1998, his rookie year, and 2005, when he threw only 14 passes in the final two games and finished with 3,747 yards.

Harrison, the record-setting receiver, achieved another milestone midway through the second quarter.
