What are the programs that you use that you love? I'm talking just nifty stuff that you find useful to have.

manny, your last few threads are starting to remind me of spursreport.... what are you going to post next? "what is your favorite color rollcall day?"

Actually...

The last few responses you've had to threads have reminded me of 5 years olds. Are you going to piss in your pants next?

But you're right, I'll stop starting threads and leave the discussion generation to you. You do suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a great job.

I format my HD every two weeks so I only use Nero, Photoshop, and Atari Arcade classics.

CoolEdit is the best music editing program I've ever seen. I remember I used it to reverse all the curse words on NWA's Straight Outta Compton album (like they do on the radio) and then I gave the CD as a gag gift to one of my friends for his birthday. He was dying laughing hearing every other word bleeped out.

For video editing in Windows nothing compares to the freeware VirtualDub. Notepad2 is the best text editor IMO for Windows; it has syntax highlighting, you can change text size on the fly by holding CTRL and moving your mouse wheel just like in Firefox, and it doesn't need to be installed. For UNIX I prefer Vim over Emacs.

LiteStep is an interesting program to use as a replacement shell for explorer in Windows, thus allowing you to remove it or only use explorer as a file manager.

For UNIX desktops I like GNOME (I can't stand KDE), although blackbox can be cool sometimes too.

I like Fear Factor. It's a cool program. I usually don't like watching them eat bugs and brains and stuff like that though. Otherwise it's pretty good.

Since I have a bad HD when it reaches 1/2 full and which is only 15 GB's The PC Starts to act like date you treat to dinner and she won't put out.

Besides I go over 15 sites a day and there are many Web Masters and Hackers that are always trying to keep me off the net,

So instead of fire walls and useless programs that slow my old 533 E. Machine down? I stay virus free as I put all my Music and favorite topics and pictures to CD and I flush out the system, each time the hard drive seems to open more clusters, My PC runs faster than some of the 2004 DELL 1200 MHz over priced systems I have worked on.

Most of the time I am just bored.

Nothing runs better than a freshly flushed PC, Ask yourself if you was a woman how long would you go without using a douche?

That's because she loses interest when you have to run back to the kitchen to wash dishes, Mouse...

Mouse flushed my HD and it runs better than it ever has and he even installed some goodies for me.

So I only have programs that he loads.

I have a computer at work that is just fucked up. Someone downloaded a casino game on it and it has been screwed ever since. I have tried adaware, spybot, remove programs, eztrust antivirus, reloading windows and its still screwed... Any tips?

Sequ, you have to do a system restore your computer to a date prior to the time you put on that casino program.

If you can't find someone at work to show you how to do it, ask LJ.

Burn it.

SequSpur

I tried the restore also. It runs through the whole process and then restarts and comes back up with an error saying that it didn't work.

Also..... when you click on the task manager, it has all kinds of stuff running for some reason and it seems like the computer is just being taken over by something.

Yeah same ish happened to me one time. You have to stop programs from starting when you turn on the computer. Is this XP?

SequSpur
02-09-2005, 11:22 PM
Yes. XP. Its about 2 years old. Its a Dell, I doubt if its covered. I ran adaware and it had 300 problems with that. I ran the antivirus program and it had 20 viruses on it and ran the spybot and it had 6 issues with that.

The only thing that is left to do is to fix this computer and fire my night shift. lol. Its funny.. I have women that work with me all day and there are no problems and then in the morning when I go in after the guys have left, there is porn and casino shit all over one of my computers. Typical.

Do a START > RUN ... and then type in 'msconfig'.

Then go to the tab called 'Startup' and uncheck everything that you don't need to startup when the computer is turned on. After you do that, restart the computer. Nothing extra should startup and then you can run adaware to get out any left over crap.

Then do a system restore and it's smooth sailing.

That will be $35. Payment due at next GTG.

Late.

I'll check it in the morning and we'll see.

Also, empty your \Windows\Prefetch folder.

The way I used to do it is to use the task manager, and then look up every process I didn't know on google, and then get rid of the BS. Also, doing a scan of all the executables and and dynamic link libraries is a good idea, using dir /o:d *.exe and dir /o:d *.dll to list all the files in order of their creation (usually your viruses will be among the newest files). \Windows and \Windows\System32 are the folders most bullshit is stored in for XP and 2000 (except its \Winnt instead of \Windows in 2000 or in XP if it was upgraded from 2000 or NT) and in \Windows and \Windows\System in ME and 98. Doing a scan using regedit is preferable to using msconfig.exe IMO, but you have to know your way around the registry or you can totally fuck your system.
