Its about time Karo goes on a tear and does something consistently. I'm about sick of seeing him get close to a title shot and blow it.

Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans
Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill
Karo Parisyan vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida

Martin Kampmann vs. Nate Marquardt

Pretty good card, still on the fence whether or not i am going to order this one, burnt a mad hole in my pockets of late on these. Have to love Chuck in the main event. Rashad does not impress me at all. He had a draw against Tito in a fight, even though Tito lost a pt for grabbing the fence i still thought Tito won. Tito outstruck him and took him down multiple times. Chuck is a bad matchup for Tito, he KO'd him twice because he could not strike with Chuck or get him down. To me Rashad is a lot like Tito, only smaller. Chuck comes in shape and he will KO Evans, likely in 2 rds.

I see Hammill is the underdog here for his fight with Rich, i think that has a lot to do with Rich's experience. He is not a natural 205 pd fighter. Matt is a big 205 pd fighter, a powerhouse of a wrestler, with a good chin and huge power in his hands, especially his right. Rich has tremendous stand-up and he needs the fight to say there. I don't think he can submit Matt on the bottom and he sure as hell won't be on top of him. One thing that worries me is Matt's gas-tank. He tired a bit late in the highway robbery, horse-shit decision loss to Bisping. I see Matt, being able to hold his own on the feet and get this down, enough to win a decision. Should be a good fight but i'll take Matt for the win. Love Rich though and won't be upset if he takes it.

djohn14

Rashad is a lot like Tito. He dosent have the explosiveness Tito once did, but I think Rashad is a better wrestler and will have a better chance of getting Chuck down. Do I think Rashad is gonna win? NO!...But it wont be a cakewalk. I dont care how much Hamill has improved and how much Rich has lost, I see no way Rich loses. IF IF IF Rich loses it would be by decision. Dan..you better not take Palhares lightly because he will take your arm and break it. Palhares, sub, round 1, after Hendo nearly KOs him.

Actually Tito proved he is a better wrestler than Rashad in their fight. He got more takedowns and Rashad can't strike. He looked like shit in that fight with Tito striking. They can play that highlight reel Ko of him vs Sean Salmon all they want, i am not impressed with his strikes. He showed me nothing against Bisping either, who never belonged at 205 in the first place. I do see a cakewalk for Chuck. I see no area whatsoever he threatens Chuck at all.

I just think we are witnessing the decline of Liddell. I think Rashad will win by decision or KO. Chuck throws his hands down too much and if he gets caught by Rashad it will be Rampage revisited.

He said once that he's glad he can't hear during his fights because it means fewer distractions.

That also means he is alone during the rounds, the corners offer great advice to the fighters (especially if you have a good corner). Who knows maybe if he could hear his corner he would have beat the count (even though I think he did anyways)

He does read lips, so he can communicate with his corner between rounds.

I always get a kick out of corners that have 3 or 4 people screaming at the same time…whats the point? Whenever Hackleman and Tito corner they are the lone voice as it should be.

I agree. I am not sure how much Franklin has left…great fighter…great career but his hands and face have been smashed too many times. His right hand has been broken 3 out of the last 4 fights or maybe just 2 in a row..can't remember. And his nose…who knows how many times. I am sure he has about 3 fights left including this one max.

Hall of famer riding towards the sunset.

I kind of have Cro Cop and Franklin slotted in the same group….and he sad this is there is no hall of fame for Cro Cop to go into.

You know…maybe one day station casinos (the fertitas own them) will have one? 15 20 years down the road?

You are correct, sir!

Thats an interesting point of view and if you are right then I wonder if he will ever be able to get his head right again. This game is so mental that such a problem might wreck him forever which I think is what happened to the Crow...such a promising career that was ruined by a weak mental outlook.

If Fedor lost I am not sure it would only bother him for about 1 day. I think that guy can out will a brick.

Cro Cop would be out willed by a flower right now. :depressed

Agree on both counts but this guy has done so much in his career and is such a professional (in the ring) that I want to give him as much of a benefit of a doubt as possible.

But leonard brings up an interest idea. A true legit injury that he is scared of whereas not too long ago wouldn't have bothered him so much.

Ryo Chonan updated his blog last night:

"I'm surprised to hear about Yoshida. His opponent, Karo Parisyan, backed out at last minute. Karo said he was in the best shape when I talked to him yesterday. I wonder what happened to him. Yoshida's mom came here to see his fight all way from Japan and he had a hard time dieting for this fight. I'm sorry for him. Charged with a role as the only fighter who represents Japan, I'm going to have a great performance tomorrow."

You read my mind. Even Don King is a better promoter than Dan White

Please explain this.

Don King? Really? Don King? The guy who hit the self destruct button to boxing? Are you really comparing him to someone who has done nothing but make a sport grow by leaps and bounds monthly?

It doesn't matter if you like Dana but to deny what he has done to force mma to grow is idiocy.

Looking forward to you backing that comment up.

Man I get so sick of people making dumb comments about Dana just because he makes dumb comments in interviews. Without him the UFC would have been sold to a bank in Seattle and PRIDE would have died a whimper in Japan and this thread would not exist. It always stuns me how people can't grasp that.

What did Don King do for boxing? How did it grow? He has been involved with it for several decades so surely there must be many great things right?

Dana has done more for MMA in under a decade than King ever thought about while taking a shit.

Boxing was the first sport I ever loved and I am still a fan but to say Don King ever did anything positive to the sport is appalling.

The last image I have of Don King is screaming at Nikolai Valuev to pick up a card board cut out of a sky scraper and toss it around. Yeah...thats awesome.

I'm not much into a promotion bullshit.
But you are right about that Dana did more for the MMA then Don for boxing although Don is first face when you are talking about promotions.
He is madeing illogical decisions - that's a fact - for example pumping up fake hype where there is no value in the fight or there is absolutely no reason for it. He is also the first guy when you talking about Tyson folding.

Dana may talk shit but he has a fresh view going forward. He wants go global with the UFC - I do not know if it's good, but as long as UFC stays in america "giving" sometimes their shows in Europe it could be benificial as hell.

I see the MMA growing real fast - in Poland we've got many fans of that sport - I could not even imagine how much. I would love to train MMA - I love training and practice. This indyvidual sport making you work hard IMO one of the hardest trainings in sports.

He didn't really improve much. It was basically a one punch KO set up by nothing special. Chuck won a very un-eventful RD 1. Rashad ran most of the RD and did not committ to any heavy shots. Chuck was trying to put on a show and he got way too over-aggressive in the 2nd Rd. Getting way too close to a man he has reach and height on. He threw a big shot, missed and got countered with a huge punch. Evans could not take Chuck down and he knew it. His only shot was to land a big shot and KO Chuck. Chuck is not what he was a few years ago but do i think Evans is going to be Champ someday?? Hell NO!!! I say have him fight Wandy next, and i got Wandy by KO inside of 2 rds.

Just for the record...when I said "idiocy" in my post I was speaking in generalities and not directly calling you personally an idiot. I worded that poorly...sorry about that.

If Dana was a good promoter like you claim then he would take the top fighters in MMA and promote them, but he takes a red neck bar brawler buddy of his and gives him title shot after title shot, and that my friend is why I made the comment in the first place. Lidell is not even in the top three fighters in his weight class and yet he gets promoted the most:nope

Chuck doesn't get promoted the most, he used to when he was the poster boy when he was dominating. As he deserved at the time. He is a UFC hall of famer and I think he has the most wins in the UFC, either him or Matt Hughes.

What title shot after title shot are you referring to?

I was just responding to the guy before me that said even though Chuck got knocked the fuck out, Dana will still get him a title fight.

No he will not...Chuck has fought 3 times since he lost his title and none were title shots. I don't think Chuck will ever see a title shot again.

And for everything else...comparing money right now is just silly...this sport is still too new to pull in boxing headline paydays. MMA is far from as global as boxing.

I have had the Don King argument so many times its like politics and I am sick of discussing so I won't go any further except to say you are correct about the good things he did until we get out of the 70's. But if you really think King has done more than Dana White to make their respective sports grow then I can't argue much because I know I will never be able to change your mind. Dana White made mma what it is today, Don advanced the sport in the 70's. There is a huge difference.

As of right now Dana does not get enough close to enough credit for making mma what it is today from the fans and some writers but thats his fault to a point. He comes off so poorly in interviews by being so brash which is by design but he went over board. He has toned it down a lot but its going to take a long time for people to notice.

I'll be glad to explain how Don King is a much better promoter than Dana White... but first of all read the fucking post before you go running your pie hole. I never said Dana didnt do a good job making the UFC popular, I was just responding to the guy before me that said even though Chuck got knocked the fuck out, Dana will still get him a title fight.

Now King on the other hand came into the boxing game when boxing was completely DEAD!!! A promoters job is to set up a venue and put together a great fight, right? No other promoter has come close to King. His very first fight was Rumble in the Jungle with Ali and Foreman. At that time the mafia ran boxing and fighters werent making crap!!! King got a record $10 million for the two fighters to split up $5 mil a piece. That was way back in 1974 and Im willing to bet that Dana white has never paid one of his fighters even close to that amount, and that was more than 30 years ago.

His next fight was the Thrilla in Manilla and both fighters made millions again. Keep in mind that all of these fights are still classics today. Larry Holmes, Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Salvador Sanchez, Wilfredo Gómez, and Alexis Arguello would all fight under Don King 1970's. In less than 10 years the guy had already establised the careers of atleast 8 legends.

For the next two decades, King continued to be boxing's most successful promoter. Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Julio César Chávez, Aaron Pryor, Bernard Hopkins, Ricardo Lopez, Felix Trinidad, Terry Norris, Carlos Zarate, Azumah Nelson, Andrzej Gołota, Mike McCallum,Gerald McClellan and Meldrick Taylor are some of the boxers who chose King to promote many of their biggest fights. Once again asshole, those are all legends who became popular because of King.

But it doesnt stop there. King was responsible for promoting the Jackson 5 Victory tour which was sold out every night. Now I know he has been sued many times, but what pomoter hasnt? The point Im making is that Don King had something to do with their success. Tyson alone was said to have made over $200 million from boxing. Im willing to bet you that if you combine all of Dana Whites fighters as of right now, they have yet to make that much money combined.

Sure boxing is is not as popular as it once was, but its far from dead you jack ass. Can Dana get any of his fighters $20 mil a fight like Oscar and Mayweather... hell no!!! He cant even get them $5 million, not even $1mil. The top guys only get around $200k and the bottom feeders only get around $2000. Now if UFC and Dana White was so great, then how come Dana cant get his top fighters million dollar paydays.

Chuck Lidell is the highest paid fighter in MMA and he only makes $500k a fight. Mayweather would piss on that money. Even the bottom dwellers in boxing make that kind of money. And guess what smart ass, most of the MMA fighters get paid according to if they win or not. WOW... some promoter Dana is.

Now when Don King gets into MMA, the million dollar paydays will follow. Oh, and King does not won boxing like Dana owns UFC. He only manages and promotes fighters, so how in the hell was he responsible for the fall of boxing?

Great Great post.

Wide open. After Winning RD 1, Chuck gets over-aggressive and is wide open to be put down. This to me is a little like Serra and GSP 1. Chuck would have won the fight had he been smarter stayed on the outside more and picked Evans apart. He got way too overconfident last night and he payed the price.

Lyoto i would think it would take a miracle to get a title shot. His style is boring and he speaks almost no english. The UFC can't have him as their 205 pd champ over someone like Forrest. Who' popular and marketable. Lyoto may deserve a shot but i would hate to give him one from a business point of view.

Well BJ is never in shape for a fight so his losses were probably more on that than anything else. Chuck changing camps i don't think will matter. He is just not as dominant as he once was. He is pushing 40 years old and his timing and reflexes are just a little slower than they once were. That is all it takes at this level of the game. He is not the same guy that dessimated Tito in grand KO fashion in RD 2 of their first fight. The guy that destroyed Randy, with viscious strikes in their last 2 fights. It's funny the run he was on, Chuck was on his way to going down as the best 205 pd fighter ever. But losing to Jackson again, then Jardine and now Rashad, his legacy has been taken down a peg. No question about it.

Mauro? He didn't seem as bad in Pride.

I'd actually like a combination of Quadros and Mir (Couture is actually a great commentator too).

now i see why everyone wanted to watch kim fight.

Kim was actually fairly unimpressive. He gassed too early trying to work the back. Although the decision was correct for the scoring rules, it wasn't his fight. That's the problem with using boxing rules to judge MMA fights, you aren't scoring the whole fight. While it was clear, at least to me, that Kim won the first round and the second round was clearly Brown, the third round was ultimately decided in the last minute. The problem with this is that Kim didn't do much work in the 2nd at all, and the third was only at the end. That cut, I believe, was the deciding factor. If we were watching this in Pride, I'd have to say that Matt Brown would have won.

I think he was ok for pride but since then he become a barking hyperbole. But his old partner Bas has gotten much better which he has indirectly accredited to being sober.

Quadros and Mir sounds interesting but he (Quadros) doesn't seem to do much commentating anymore…wonder why. I think he even stopped doing his podcast.

And yeah Couture is great which is why I was so frustrated in his return press conference nobody asked if he was doing another personal services contract. The only knock on him is his low voice but when he projects it he's spot on.

Rashad? Im not counting him out by any means, but why?...how KO, Sub, Dec?

I just think we are witnessing the decline of Liddell. I think Rashad will win by decision or KO. Chuck throws his hands down too much and if he gets caught by Rashad it will be Rampage revisited.

Again Chuck gets caught because he doesnt know how to keep his hands up. Thats boxing 101, and I know it was a sucking part of training. I hated it but they push that on you EVERYTIME your in the ring.

Still can't believe that KO...viscious...

Glad to see Rich and Dan get wins. Palhares and Hamill still have bright futures in the sport.

F'n Marquardt...dirty bastard...Kampman will be great at 170 lbs. He just needed a good beating to make the change...

Kim better learn to not blow his wad in the 1st rd.

Rashad is going to get his ass kicked so bad but this match up was logical and he deserved a big fight.

:depressed

I had to...

Well Quinton also won the battle against Chuck with one shot and it was bit controversial that ref stopped the fight then. I haven't heard any complains only because rampage was already considered top LHW through years.

Not controversial at all...Chuck was out cold and was revived by the next punch just as Big John was stepping in. Perfect stoppage really...

Ahem.

But what was up with the Rashad/nipple thing? I had problems with the guy already...

That was just weird.

Turning up da riddum...

Well BJ is never in shape for a fight

Wha?

My favorite quote of the night came from Goldy for once, instead of Rogan:

(talking about Hendo's stance) "That right hand never moves... unless he throws it."

:lol

although Pride did factor in physical damage as a large part of the scoring. It was a close fight under any rules.

I had Kim taking the 1st and 3rd...the last 1:30 on top and the big cut left an impression on the judges. He saved just enough energy to pull it out after blowing his wad hanging on Brown's back in the 1st...

And assuming Lyoto wins his next fight you would think he gets the winner.

Having seen the fight back a few times over one thing about Chuck i see other than his reflexes being not as sharp as they once were is he has become very one dimensional with his striking. Chuck has great kicks, and kickboxing experience and while he never really over-used them, he didn't used to basically ignore his kicks either. His style is that now he basically just hangs that left out there to give you something to look at, with his right hand cocked back, looking to land that huge over-hand right. He doesn't even throw a left jab with any kind of authority anymore. Jardine took advanatage of Chuck just head-hunting. He leg-kicked Chuck to death while Chuck was just looking for that one punch bomb. He was wide open to kicks in the Silva fight but Wandy got himself drawn into a punching match with Chuck and did not take advantage. Chuck's skills have diminshed and his game-plans now suck, in my opinion.

I was going to write one, just taking it from both sides in terms of the impact of the fight. What does it mean for the UFC, if Brock wins versus Randy winning? It is a fascinating fight from that angle i feel. Randy keeps going on and on about Fedor, a fight nobody will care about if he loses to Brock. Brock being the ex-wwe wrestler to UFC champ is fascinating as well. If you want to do that i can focus on something with GSP or something else altogether. I have a few ideas.

No doubt he's a tough sell at this point in time but I think he will grow on people eventually. A KO or two will go a long way as we the mma fan are a emotional, fickle and reactionary breed much akin to the college football and soccer fan. If he wins his next fight he will get a title shot. He only has 13 fights he still has so much room to grow.

MMAjunkie gets the answers to the questions we've all been asking - namely, why the hell Greg Jackson's guys have been pinching their nipples before fights.

"Georges St. Pierre was the first do it, and it's just sort of an inside joke," Evans said.

Evans said St. Pierre had heard it was supposed to bring good luck -- according to some ancient fighting myths, anyway. And if there's anything the New Mexico-based Team Jackson group knows, it's unity. Led by famed fight strategist and head trainer Greg Jackson, the team has created a sense of brotherhood among team members Evans, St. Pierre, Keith Jardine, Nate Marquardt, Joey Villasenor and others.

"Georges said it was supposed to good luck or something, so I said, 'Cool, alright,'" Evans said, laughing.

at 155 he is in decent shape because he has to be thin to make weight. He has never been in great shape at 170. Last seen gassing out in the Hughes rematch. Have you seen him lately?? He has gotten very fat and out of shape in between fights again. GSP is one of the finest conditioned athletes in the sport. He is going to wear BJ out come Jan.

We'll see...

He's a true LW. He doesn't have the typical WW frame so he's not going to look like a Fitch or GSP at 170 lbs.

I don't remember what BJ looked at on his adventures to 205. I think it looked about the same as he is at 170. pics anyone?

Machida can't be that much more boring than Rashad. They are both the equivalent of counterpunchers in boxing. Great fighters, but not the most exciting lot.

agreed.

"I told him after the fight that his performance was uncharacteristic and that he really needed to do some soul searching to see if this is really what he wants to do. He had absolutely no fighting spirit, no killer instinct. He looked like a shell of himself and was just out there to get through it and that is very disconcerting.”

That is really harsh right there. Matt had never been in there before with a guy of Rich's caliber and experience. Matt does not have very many fights. Maybe he was a little gunshy because he and Rich are friends. Matt is a very nice, good guy by all accounts. I don't think this loss though will be the end of him. He is a lot of ability, he'll be back.

I think it is a lot for his trainer to tell him

"Do some soul searching about whether or not this is what you want to do" after that loss. I saw the fight, he tried but Rich was too versatile for him.

ahhh shieyt

Umm I downloaded the main event of the ufc and I must say that Rashad was outscoring Liddell in the second and the first was won by Chuck slightly.
So accept rashads win.

And damn - that is shitty quality and not original comment. So I will try to wait for another, better version.
