I believe the biggest reason Clinton is not the VP candidate is that she'll be offered an important role down the line.

Which of the following do you think is most likely?

I would love to see her on the Supreme Court.

I think the Supreme Court is too far from the action for Senator Clinton and I'm not sure that she would take anything other than a high-level cabinet position (Secretary of State, AG) and I'm not sure that even that would have a high enough profile to keep her in the presidential rodeo -- bureaucrats don't have the sort of "experience" that senators do.

I still think the correct answer to this question is "senator."

"senator."

With Kennedy gone, her stock increases even more.

She's not the VP candidate so she can pick up the pieces in 12 when Barrack loses

It seems clear to me that Senator Clinton still aspires to be President. I might be missing something, but I can't think of the last time that a cabinet officer made a successful run for the nomination in either party. Governors - yes; senators - yes; vice-presidents - yes. Secretaries of the various departments - no.

She'll take Harry Reid's job as Senate Majority Leader.

US Senators have quite poor %age of winning the Presidency.

That percentage will get a bump this year.

True, but I'd think the percentages are even lower for cabinet officials. Governor or Vice President are the clearest and easiest paths to the White House, but after that, I'd suspect that Senator would be far more likely than Secretary of Health and Human Services or Secretary of the Interior.

I think you are right about that.

I could see her getting the Sec of State job as a possibility, but a remote one.

Also, a little unrelated, this thread assumes Obama will be offering positions in the coming year.

I thought the Dems could march out just about anybody in 2004 and win.....nothing is for sure, especially with an African American candidate.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if Obama loses. But that shock would last all of 2 minutes.

I haven't read any of the posts in this thread yet, but I say NONE! There is too much bitterness between the two.

Besides, she has a secure senate position right now. If she was VP, Nobama would become another mysterious death of the scores that surround the Clinton's. I think Nobama has this on his mind at all times. The only reason she is supporting him know is that she knows she is ruined as a democrat if she doesn't.

I think she would take the Senate Majority leader position, but I don't think Reid is too much in a hurry to give up his position....I'm not crazy about Reid and Pelosi sitting on their hands while Dubya thumbs his nose at international law and the will of the people...
