Wow. Interesting pick, but how can McCain now criticize Obama for being inexperienced...? Two years ago, Palin was mayor of a city that only has 5,000 citizens. It's like picking the mayor of Seguin to be a running mate.

Might I suggest Eskimorons?

Between McCain's age and health and the fact that Obama skin color will paint a target on his back, front and side for plenty of psychos, that line about "one heartbeat away from the presidency" looms large in this election. Glancing at the resumes thus far Biden's is looking a lot more impressive.

Since Palin has been Governor for a year and Obama has around 145 days in the Senate, I'd say McCain can still use the inexperience card.

Probably won't carry as much weight though.

Palin was the point guard and captain for the Wasilla High School Warriors, in Wasilla, Alaska, when they won the Alaska small-school basketball championship in 1982; she earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" because of her intense play.[4] She played the championship game despite a stress fracture in her ankle, hitting a critical free throw in the last seconds.[4] Palin, who was also the head of the school Fellowship of Christian Athletes, would lead the team in prayer before games.[4]

Palin was born in Idaho and raised in Alaska. In 1984, she was the runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, receiving a scholarship that allowed her to attend the University of Idaho, where she received a degree in journalism. After working as a sports reporter at an Anchorage television station, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council from 1992 to 1996, was elected mayor of Wasilla (population 5,470 in 2000) in 1996, and ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in 2002.

Interesting lady.
I like that she was a writer and likes sport. I know that has nothing to do with her ability to be a good vice president, but it makes her personable at least.

I'd say anyone that is sexist, or racist, is xenophobic first and foremost....and Obama is not going to appeal to anyone that is xenophobic...and that's a lot of Americans right now with regards to Mid-Easterners. I think McCain is making efforts to get votes from the middle and from the other side of the aisle but I think he needs to be most concerned about the ones in this base.

Until I see proof that this will do anymore more than provide some shallow pandering to women voters (women voters who have a clue about women's rights aren't voting for mccain anyway) then I am of the opinion Romney was his better choice.

Literally the weakest VP pick since Quayle. She could do something down the road, but wow. A bit of a reach there, eh? No experience, nothing to run on. Has 'rock ribbed' Republican values - is even a creationist. And clearly done as an electoral ploy to go after PUMAs and dissolve the attention from the Dem convention. Again the Republicans don't campaign to govern, they campaign to campaign. They win and then don't know what to do when they get there.

This'll get a bounce in interest, but she's really weak. Word is she hasn't even been vetted yet.

Palin kept her campaign promises by reducing her own salary, as well as reducing property taxes by 60%.[

Palin is strongly pro-life, a supporter of capital punishment (which is not a pro-life position),[28] and belongs to Feminists for Life.[9]

Romney would have been great to raise money... for the economy and he looks presidential.

Palin is 100% pro-life, Life-long NRA member, she hunts - she fishes - she has a glider plane she flies -- mother of 5 - full of character -- she was appoint to the ethics board by the Gov she defeated and resigned when she saw the lack of ethics. She is solid. Not to mention - you will never hear the "experience" attack from the libtards -- nor will you hear them attack her gender - or being a mother with a special needs child - how can someone from the left be that hypocritical -- they can't can they??????

She is conservative to the core !

You guys just don't understand the psychology of breaking social barriers...there are certain stigmas that are behind these barriers, a lack of trust if you will, and noone that seems to live up to the stigma is going to be the one to break them.

IOW. it's going to be someone who plays against type....not someone who is reminiscent of the stereotype.

IOW...and I've said this on this forum for years now, the first female or minority to get elected President...will be a Republican. Because they'll be pulling from 2 sides...not 1 and they'll have to pull from both sides to break that barrier.

that would be because they call her a "Maverick" due to her resigning from the GOP ethics committee due to the lack of ethcis that existed at the time -- along with other instances.

The small town "insult"?

That was no gaffe. That's FOX News making something out of nothing and putting it out there.

If Obama had chosen the Mayor of McAllen who had previously been the Mayor of Boerne, as his running mate, FOX News would talk to no end about what an inexperienced the VP selection was.

Making something about nothing is what politics are all about. I'm not saying small towners should be insulted by it, I'm saying they will be.

I was making breakfast this morning and my girlfriend came into the kitchen and I told her McCain had picked Palin from Alaska, first thing she said was "Does he really think women are going to fall for that?"

I really don't see how this was anything other than McCain trying to pull away pissed off Hillary supporters from the Democrats. Just last week he's bashing Obama on experience and credentials, then picks Palin, so I would like to know how this is anything but a ploy to attract women voters

Romney was the right choice for McCain even if he does look like someone that would play an evil space alien in a mans body if he were to be cast in a movie.

All I am saying is, if he wanted someone that had experience as a governor, wanted to drill in ANWR, and was fiscally responsible... why not Romney? Isn't he more experienced and qualified than Palin? I'm only bringing the experience factor up because that's what the GOP has been shoving down everyones throats for the last few months. Just curious as to why they kind of went the other way.

Did McCain just completely diss Romney? I mean he even said himself Hillary was completely screwed since she got the 2nd most votes to Obama, didn't Romney earn the 2nd most votes in Republican primaries?

Someone please prove to me this was more than a ploy

Brooks and Dunn are Republicans, right?

They got that song "Just Put a Girl in It" that's on the charts right now.

Gonna be a new verse soon, I bet.
