You say that almost like it won't count if she's elected.
VP's always have been picked to target certain voter demographics that the nominee doesn't really appeal to...it's not some clever little trick they just started pulling. It's called getting more votes to win the election.
The point is...if she's elected she's still elected. So do you guys stand for progress or maintaing the status quo?
IF you fail to step up and shatter the glass ceiling...don't blame men...blame your own contrary nature.
PS: Please don't feed me a line of BS about ideals...the Democrats are owned by special interest groups just like the Republicans.

You don't consider 18 million votes support. She lost in the primary and the fact that she lost doesn't mean she isn't respected. I just happened to like Obama better. Had she beaten Obama I'd be right there with her because she would win hands down over Palin. But again, I digress to the political forum.

Party affiliation doesn't really matter to me here. I was just commenting on what I percieved/anticipated as a desperation move. But your point about being for progress or status quo and shattering the glass ceiling are exactly what I thought this party was thinking with this pick. That I and other women will vote for them merely because she's a woman and ignore pertinant issues. That's insulting to me. That being said, I wish her much success; I just don't know who I'm voting for yet, and a woman being on the ticket, albeit a qualified one, is not going to seal the deal for me.

All you did was post negatives...here you are citing how positive Obama is and you go right to the negatives on the opposition and don't mention anything else.
Every candidate has positives and negatives, and ignoring all the positives and focusing on the negatives isn't really a substitute for objective analysis. Especially when you claim to be voting for one guy because he's positive.

Just because I'm positive about Obama doesn't mean I have to be postive about Palin. That argument doesn't even make any sense. And it isn't hard to spot the negatives as they are clear to see. Unless of course you are so smitten as to over look those negatives.

More leadership experience than the other two. State Governors make more decisions in a week than a senator does in a lifetime
Leadership...?
She can't even lead her own state party...:lmao
State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to tell her the news.
"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"
Green, who has feuded with Palin, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that's far from guaranteed.
House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was also astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications.
"She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen."

But she can take away a woman's right to choose.
No she can't....overturning Roe V Wade won't take away a woman's right to choose. But you will never see it done anyway.
Oh, so you bought the whole "Mission Accomplished" story?
The mission to get rid of Saddam? That was over a few weeks after it began...I don't know why anyone thought installing a Democracy would be something done instantly.
So then why not bring to troops home if it is is over?
Because Iran and Saudi are both stronger than Iraq right now, and neither of them wants Democracy in Iraq...or for sympathizers to Iran or Saudi to be in power.
Just because I'm positive about Obama doesn't mean I have to be postive about Palin.
So it's not really about being postive for you...it's just about the Democratic byline dujour.
That argument doesn't even make any sense.
Sure it does...
And it isn't hard to spot the negatives as they are clear to see.
It's never hard to spot negatives Joe...it never is.
Bedies...you don't know that her not knowing much about Iraq is a negative...who knows, she might agree with you 100%.
Unless of course you are so smitten as to over look those negatives.
Ironically enough...I haven't decided who I will be voting for yet. Unlike some, I don't make that decision just because a political party puts them up there for nomination.

More leadership experience than the other two. State Governors make more decisions in a week than a senator does in a lifetime

Nah, because she doesn't hold a candle to Snowe or Richardson.

No, and know as crazy as it sounds, due to the arguments against Obama's experience, I just don't see her as ready to take on the role as president and that of course is largely based on the fact that I have not seen her enough to get a sense of what she is like and although it will be only be through the media and internet I will need to gather my own understanding of who she is and go from there. I'm just not ready to jump ship.

So basically, neither you nor 2blonde have checked her record yet.
Get back to me when ya'll do.
I know she's a pro-lifer. That right there seals the deal for me. Although it was already decided by me a long time ago... not based on candidates, but issues. I don't like the current Republican policies and I don't care if they parade Antonio Sabato Jr. up there and tell me he'll be the next VP!!! I'm still voting for Obama. Hillary was my first choice and Obama was my second. McCain isn't even in my top 10.:toast

I am pro-choice too, but it's not a major issue because it's not ever going to be reversed and if it is, the women of this country will instantly raise hell about it like hell has never been raised before.
If it's the Supreme Court you are worried about...the justices to overturn Roe V Wade are already on the bench.
My point is just to check out her story and tell me that she isn't impressive. She is very impressive, regardless of her gender or politics, and I don't think this pick is entirely about pandering.
I agree her stance on abortion is radical...and it's definitely not one I agree with. Who knows, maybe you are right to be wary of her, because she does seem to have an uncommon amount of determination.

Then I doubt that you'll be changing your mind any time soon, but she's still an impressive nominee to come out of nowhere. S'all I'm saying.
Plus she's hot.

Although it's a hell of a risky pick, I do at least think it will stir some interest back into the party. I think that this MAY be a slam dunk for the Obama campaign as Biden may walk all over her in the debates. He COULD crush her but the Repubs could possibly see it as a finely concocted opportunity for her to impress during the V.P. debates. We'll see. I hope she impresses...

I just had to chuckle a little when I read this. When I said essentially the same thing (but more accurately "just because a political party puts up a woman"), you gave me the, "do you stand for progress or the status quo?" and "here is your chance to bust the glass ceiling" or something like that!! Sorry but I can't agree that I (a woman) should decide my vote just because they put her out there, but you (a man) shouldn't "make that decision just because a political party puts them up there." ;)

All the more reason to make sure there is a pro-choice administration in place, should one of the sitting justices be "stricken" and require replacing. I know it's a stretch....

Oh I don't think you should vote for her just because she's a woman...but ya'll wrote her off as a typical politician and this move was typical pandering...and she isn't, and it's not.
But just for the record...they thumbed their noses at the Hilary supporters by not giving her the VP nomination...and Biden was a horrible choice.

That's funny because the judge that wrote the Roe V Wade opinion in the first place was a Republican.
And history has shown that Supreme Court Justices seldom adhere to the politics of their party in making judicial decisions.
It takes 5 Justices to overturn Roe V Wade...there are 7 Republican appointees on the bench right now...and they could have already overturned Roe V Wade several times.
It's not going to happen...and like I said, if it does, there will be a Nation wide hell raising protest over it if it ever does. And everyone knows it....including the Republicans in office.
