Winner of the past three national championships in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision, Appalachian State is the hottest program at its level.
The only winner of two BCS national championships, LSU is arguably the hottest major college program.
They meet at 10 a.m. today in Tiger Stadium, the first matchup between reigning national champions of Division I’s two subdivisions.
We knew the historical significance in April when the game was scheduled. Now we have the twist, thanks to a storm named Gustav, of the change from an afternoon kickoff to the earliest start in Tiger Stadium history.
Morning call, breakfast of champions.
LSU coach Les Miles acknowledges his Tigers can proudly display their championship rings — and the confident stride that comes with them — but he said there’s another element to the mentality needed for this season opener.
