Flip4mac (http://www.flip4mac.com/) - some sites still use .wmv for video

Browsers: Opera (http://www.opera.com/) or Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/)

Azureus - torrent downloading

VLC Media Player - plays most downloaded video content

Flip4Mac - allows wmv to play through the web

Dockables - great set of shortcut icons to perform specific functions, like putting display to sleep, etc...

VisualHub - great video converting program

MacFlac - converts the rare .flac files to playable formats

MacGourmet - for the culinary inclined, kind of a cookbook/recipe program

NEStopia and SNES9x - emulators for the Mac

Cyberduck - FTP software

CandyBar - customize your dock, desktop, icons, etc...

And of course, there are all the iLife applications, and if you want a little more beef to those, there is Aperture for photographers, Final Cut for film, and Logic Pro for musicians.

If there's something else you need, just Google for the type of application and 'Mac' and you'll more than likely find something to suit your needs.

You should probably download StuffIt Expander too, which can help with certain package files.

Dex pretty much has you covered.

Just some other ones that I like to use:

uApp or AppZapper - Completely uninstalls programs. On a mac you normally just delete the application icon, but these programs completely get rid of everything.

Gimp or Seashore - FREE photoshop type applications

Transmission - for torrents

TubeTV - Download flash videos (youtube, google video, etc.)

LiteIcon and/or Dock Library - essentially FREE versions of candybar.

iWork '08 - a personal favorite

Screenflow - A rather expensive program that records your screen; what you do, what you say, and the noises your computer makes. It's really good if you make videos for youtube.

:)

Also,

Adium - Combines several instant messaging programs into one. (Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, Jabber, etc.)

And it has a cool duck for a logo :D http://www.adiumx.com/images/logo.png
